Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Kobel!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Aleksandr Martynov and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monk has a takedown stuffed.

Monk gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Monk tries for a takedown. No joy.

Monk decides to pull guard.
Kobel should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Monk looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Monk looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kobel is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Monk had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kobel defends it easily.

Monk throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Monk wants to stand and escape but Kobel is having none of it.

Monk pushes Kobel off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Monk tries for a takedown but Kobel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Nice takedown defense from Kobel. No joy for Monk on that attempt.
Monk lands a right hook to the body.
Monk slaps away a takedown attempt from Kobel, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Monk is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Monk has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kobel uses from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kobel fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Monk shoots in looking for a takedown but Kobel manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Monk's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Monk is defended easily by Kobel.
Monk throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kobel's waist but Kobel gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Monk off to one side.

Monk closes the distance and pushes Kobel back into the cage.
Monk wants to break the clinch but can't.

Monk tries to score a body lock takedown but Kobel shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Kobel wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Monk is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Kobel is defending well for now.
Kobel is trying to push Monk away but Monk has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Kobel wants to break free but Monk has control.
Monk has Kobel pressed against the cage, preventing Kobel from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Monk has Kobel pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kobel manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Monk escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kobel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Monk's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alex Monk wasn't doing enough on the ground.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Monk shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Monk showed some decent athleticism there.
Well, if Monk is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Kobel takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

We're going to have a standup here because Alex Monk wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Kobel has eaten all the pies!

Kobel throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Monk shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Kobel eats them both and turns towards Monk to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
