Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Verdmont Bronson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julio Sobral (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bronson comes into the arena with So long and thanks for all the fish blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Verdmont Bronson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julio Sobral! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sobral slips a jab from Bronson. Bronson scores with a hook. Bronson closes the distance and pushes Sobral back into the cage. Bronson keeps control of Sobral as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Sobral is looking for a takedown. Sobral lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Both guys are working to get underhooks. A head punch on the inside from Sobral fails to land. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Sobral creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Bronson manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round. Sobral dives in and grabs Bronson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bronson pushes down on Sobral's head and hops out. Sobral darts in trying to clinch and Bronson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Sobral slips under a jab. Bronson stuffs the takedown attempt from Sobral. That's two minutes gone in the round. Sobral decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Sobral is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Bronson has managed to free his arm - good work. Sobral controlling the action here. It looks like Sobral might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Sobral is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bronson sees it coming and defends easily. Well, if Sobral is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Sobral is looking to take a break and control but Bronson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Sobral tries to pass to full mount but Bronson defends it. Sobral passes the guard and advances to mount! Sobral controlling the pace for now. Bronson tries to lock up and control but Sobral gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Sobral wants to advance to full mount but Bronson doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Bronson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Sobral wants to pass the guard but Bronson is keeping the position. Bronson really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill... Sobral wants to control from the top but Bronson keeps moving. Bronson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

No, Bronson has managed to get both his arms back between Sobral's legs - danger averted. Sobral is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bronson is aware though and is defending well. Bronson tries to stand but Sobral is controlling from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bronson gets to his feet - Sobral follows without any prompting. Sobral throws a body punch but Bronson moves out of range.

Sobral throws the left hand but Bronson avoids the punch easily. Bronson misses the body punch and Sobral counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Sobral wants to clinch and Bronson counters with a left to the body. Bronson thows a left - swing and a miss! Sobral misses with a jab, cross combination.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Sobral ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Sobral misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Julio Sobral showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Great action here. Sobral advances to half guard. Sobral not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Bronson has one foot on Sobral's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Verdmont Bronson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's going to take a lot out of Julio Sobral. Bronson lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Sobral throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bronson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sobral is trying desperately to improve position. Sobral tries to hold on but Bronson postures up. Sobral is desperately trying to improve his position but Bronson has a good base and remains in mount. Sobral wants to control but Bronson is having none of it. Julio Sobral is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sobral passes Bronson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
