Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juan Phobos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alan Belcher! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Phobos throws a series of punches but Belcher avoids them all with ease. Belcher closes this distance looking for a takedown but Phobos circles away. Belcher misses with a looping right. Belcher has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Phobos. Phobos scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
It looks like Alan Belcher has been cut. Belcher shoots in for a double leg but Phobos sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Belcher looks to clinch and Phobos counters with an outside leg kick.
Belcher has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Phobos tries to clinch but Belcher is having none of it. Phobos lands a leg kick that knocks Belcher off balance momentarily. Belcher takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
That's one minute gone in the round. An inside leg kick lands from Phobos. Belcher takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Phobos wants to clinch. Belcher misses with a takedown attempt and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Juan Phobos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alan Belcher. Phobos turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Belcher looks winded! Phobos shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Belcher eats them both and turns towards Phobos to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Belcher avoids a punch combination nicely.
Phobos throws a sloppy head kick and Belcher moves out of range easily. Phobos closes the distance and pushes Belcher back into the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Phobos stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Belcher tries to pull guard but Phobos won't allow it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Phobos putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Belcher in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Belcher is trying to push Phobos away but Phobos has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Belcher tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Belcher tries to break the clinch but Phobos is controlling the position. Phobos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Phobos throws a nice looking combination but Belcher bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Nice sprawl there from Phobos as Belcher shoots in.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Phobos misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Phobos has managed to clinch.
Phobos lands an elbow that stopped Belcher in his tracks for a moment. Phobos lands on the inside with an uppercut. Belcher jumps guard but Phobos stands there with Belcher around his waist. Belcher gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Phobos - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Phobos breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Belcher is trying desperately to land a takedown but Phobos is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Belcher.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Belcher fails with a takedown attempt from distance. A slow jab from Belcher misses its intended target. Belcher dives in and grabs Phobos's left leg, looking for a takedown. Phobos pushes down on Belcher's head and hops out. Phobos misses with a few strikes there.
Phobos looks to land a left hand but Belcher moved out of range nicely. Phobos chopping away at his opponent's legs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Belcher shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Phobos manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Phobos has control of Belcher's left arm, preventing Belcher from doing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Juan Phobos dominated that round. The cut man is working on Alan Belcher's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Phobos looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Belcher takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Phobos closes the distance and clinches. Phobos breaks from the clinch.
Phobos dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Belcher. That did some damage! Phobos ducks under a wild hook from Belcher. Alan Belcher seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Phobos lands a high kick!
Phobos misses with a series of wild punches.
Phobos smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
That's one minute gone in the round. Belcher misses with a straight right. Phobos tries to bum rush Belcher with a series of wild strikes but Belcher uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Phobos waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Belcher. Belcher looks to land a right hand but Phobos moved out of range. Phobos tries to clinch up but Belcher circles away and keeps his distance. Phobos misses with a low kick.
Juan Phobos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Belcher shoots in for a takedown but Phobos shows good takedown defense.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Phobos fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Belcher has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Belcher gets off balance looking for a body kick and Phobos counters with a nice uppercut. Belcher misses with a looping left. Belcher misses with a takedown and Phobos counters with a nice low kick that buckles Belcher's knee momentarily. Juan Phobos is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Belcher is breathing heavily. Phobos doesn't manage to clinch there - Belcher circles away.
Belcher manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Phobos on his heels. He'll look to pass Phobos's guard now, I'm sure. Phobos has Belcher pulled in close to control his posture. Phobos looking for a sweep. Not yet Phobos, not yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Belcher with a flurry of punches that miss. Belcher throwing strikes but missing. Belcher throwing strikes from guard but Phobos blocks nicely. Belcher pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Phobos is keeping the position for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Belcher postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Phobos is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Belcher, into his guard. Phobos knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Belcher on the ground. Belcher looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Phobos is defending well. Belcher quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Phobos has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Belcher celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
