The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ruiz gets a double leg takedown into Ek's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Ek is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ek is looking to take a break and control but Ruiz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ruiz won't allow Ek to pass to mount.

Ek is working for a kimura but Ruiz is defending it quite comfortably.

Ek is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ruiz is just riding it out for now. Ek eventually gives up the hold.

Ek is looking for a kimura but Ruiz is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ek to get the leverage.

Ek maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Ruiz could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Ek has cracked it and Ruiz is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Ek!

A less than humble Marcus Ek misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
