PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Carneiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George DeLuca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carneiro comes to the cage accompanied by The Rasmus - In the Shadows. DeLuca has chosen Crying like a Bitch as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Carneiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, George DeLuca!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DeLuca tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Carneiro counters by moving into the clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
DeLuca trying to land knees to the body.
Carneiro keeps control of DeLuca as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
DeLuca putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Carneiro in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
DeLuca misses with the head strike.
DeLuca throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Carneiro blocks it with crossed arms.
DeLuca tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Carneiro has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. DeLuca is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
DeLuca tries to land a knee to the head but Carneiro blocks with his arms.
DeLuca connects with a nasty looking knee right to Carneiro's face.


It looks like Daniel Carneiro has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A short left from DeLuca.

Carneiro tightens his grip and picks DeLuca up, before dumping him to the ground. DeLuca manages to land in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
DeLuca trying to keep a closed guard but Carneiro is proving a slippery customer.
DeLuca wants to sweep here but Carneiro controlling him for the moment.

DeLuca keeping moving, preventing Carneiro from controlling successfully.
Carneiro has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of DeLuca is proving hard to escape from.
Carneiro tries to free his leg and advance position but DeLuca is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
DeLuca is pulling down on Carneiro's head to control his posture.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
DeLuca tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carneiro swats him away and circles back towards the center.

DeLuca moves into the clinch.
Carneiro wants to break the clinch but can't.
DeLuca stalling in the clinch.

Carneiro lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
DeLuca trying to control from the bottom.
Carneiro content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
DeLuca wants to get back to full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Carneiro is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
DeLuca is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

DeLuca instigates a clinch.
DeLuca misses with a hook from the clinch.
Carneiro wants a takedown.
DeLuca has Carneiro pushed against the cage.
DeLuca with an attempt at a knee that misses.
DeLuca is looking to control Carneiro's arms but Carneiro gets an underhook and turns him. Now DeLuca has his back to the cage.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
DeLuca stalling in the clinch.
DeLuca connects with a nasty looking knee right to Carneiro's face.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Carneiro goes for a takedown in the clinch but DeLuca prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Carneiro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
DeLuca looking to throw knees to the head but Carneiro is blocking nicely.

DeLuca is trying to maintain a safe position but Carneiro gets an underhook and turns DeLuca into the cage.
DeLuca lands a good knee to the midsection. Carneiro won't want to take too many of those.
Carneiro is breathing heavily.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carneiro avoids a wild elbow strike from DeLuca.

Carneiro breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Carneiro shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

DeLuca forces Carneiro back against the cage and clinches.
DeLuca throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Carneiro blocks it with crossed arms.
DeLuca tries to land knees in the clinch but Carneiro avoids the damage to the body.
A short right hand to the side of the head by DeLuca.
Carneiro drops to a knee looking for a takedown but DeLuca gets the underhooks and prevents it.
A left hand lands to the body for DeLuca.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
With the fighters up against the cage, DeLuca throws an elbow but misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George DeLuca dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Daniel Carneiro's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


DeLuca connects with a right hand. Carneiro shakes it off.
DeLuca tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Carneiro counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Carneiro.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Carneiro stopping the sweep attempt from DeLuca.
Carneiro slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Carneiro wants to control but DeLuca is keeping him busy.

DeLuca tries to bench press Carneiro off him but Carneiro keeps the position.
DeLuca manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Carneiro trying to mount his opponent but DeLuca defends it.
Carneiro wants to stand up but DeLuca is controlling the position.
Carneiro is keen to just control but DeLuca is a slippery customer.

Carneiro is sneakily working for an arm triangle but DeLuca sees it coming and defends easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Carneiro prevents DeLuca from improving his position.

The fighters are battling for position here. DeLuca manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
DeLuca controls Carneiro momentarily but Carneiro frees himself.
Carneiro wants to control from the top but DeLuca keeps moving.
DeLuca avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carneiro is looking to work some ground and pound but DeLuca has wrist control.

Carneiro postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! DeLuca is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Carneiro, into his guard.

DeLuca drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Carneiro manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now DeLuca has Carneiro in his guard.
DeLuca is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
DeLuca scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
DeLuca has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

DeLuca is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Carneiro is surviving well by controlling DeLuca's body position as best he can.
Daniel Carneiro overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
DeLuca lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
DeLuca postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Carneiro looks a forlorn figure.
DeLuca breaks from Carneiro's wrist control and lands an elbow.
DeLuca drops a big elbow. That's hurt Carneiro! More shots from DeLuca and the ref steps in! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). George DeLuca!
George DeLuca spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
