PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Yoichi Sumachi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and jt Wash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wash has chosen The Fighter as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoichi Sumachi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, jt Wash!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Fujiwara and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sumachi avoids a punch combination nicely.
Wash defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sumachi.
Sumachi dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Wash. That did some damage!
Wash swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sumachi showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Wash.
Sumachi fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wash avoids it really well and circles away.
Wash throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sumachi waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Wash.
Wash throws a nice looking combination but Sumachi bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Wash moves out of range as Sumachi throws a body kick.
Wash is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sumachi is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Wash wants to break free but Sumachi has control.
Sumachi is trying to pull guard but Wash turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Wash is looking to break free of the clinch but Sumachi has double underhooks.

Sumachi keeps control of Wash as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Wash escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sumachi fails with the takedown.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sumachi.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Sumachi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Sumachi goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Wash rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Sumachi's guard! Nice work there by Wash!
Wash has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sumachi is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sumachi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wash stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Nice takedown defense from Wash. No joy for Sumachi on that attempt.

Sumachi throws a sloppy head kick and Wash moves out of range easily.

Sumachi has gone for a leg lock! Wash slips out almost immediately though and dives into Sumachi's guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Wash avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Sumachi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wash can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Wash stands up and waves to Sumachi to follow him.
No joy there for Wash, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Sumachi shoots for a double leg takedown but Wash sprawls well. He's pushed Sumachi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Wash rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sumachi moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Wash misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Sumachi could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sumachi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wash's waist but Wash gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sumachi off to one side.
Wash throws a right hand that Sumachi ducks under and follows up with a left that Sumachi also avoids with ease.

Sumachi throws a sloppy head kick and Wash moves out of range easily.

and Sumachi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Sumachi stands up from guard. Let's bang!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Wash throws a series of punches but Sumachi avoids them all with ease.

Sumachi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yoichi Sumachi dominated that round.
That's time! Sumachi's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Wash misses with a few strikes there.

Sumachi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Wash manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Sumachi postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Wash is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sumachi, into his guard.
Wash must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sumachi is on top in guard.

Sumachi is looking to advance position but Wash has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Sumachi is looking to improve his position but Wash isn't that keen on the idea.

Wash is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

jt Wash seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sumachi fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Wash to the ground. Sumachi is now in Wash's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Sumachi stands and steps away. Wash gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Sumachi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Wash's half guard.
Wash is trying to stand back up but Sumachi is controlling him

Sumachi wants to work for an arm triangle but Wash is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Yoichi Sumachi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sumachi seems to be working for a kimura but Wash defends the submission attempt.

Sumachi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yoichi Sumachi dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Wash swinging wildly here.
jt Wash seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Sumachi slips a jab and a cross from Wash.
Wash's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Wash duly obliges.
Wash fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sumachi.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sumachi.

Sumachi is working to tighten is grip on Wash's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Wash has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Sumachi is really squeezing tight and eventually Wash passes out! Sumachi breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
