Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Oleg Alekseev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Polish Engineer! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Viktor Lagutenko and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Engineer listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
It looks like Oleg Alekseev has been cut. Engineer takes a swing at Alekseev's ribcage but misses. Engineer thows a body shot but no joy. Alekseev waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Engineer. Alekseev checks a leg kick nicely. Alekseev misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Alekseev misses with a double jab
and Engineer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Nice defenses there by Alekseev. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A big right from Engineer misses. Alekseev walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Nice jab there from Alekseev. Engineer throws a right and a left that both miss.
That's one minute gone in the round. Engineer fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Alekseev manages to avoid it. Engineer slaps away a takedown attempt from Alekseev, before circling back to the center of the mat. Engineer works Alekseev's body with a nice hook. Alekseev closes this distance looking for a takedown but Engineer circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oleg Alekseev. That's going to take a lot out of him. Alekseev drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Alekseev drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Engineer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Alekseev has Engineer in his guard. Alekseev seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Engineer stopping the sweep attempt from Alekseev. Alekseev avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Engineer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Engineer trying to control the position from guard on top but Alekseev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This has been an exciting period of action! Engineer is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Engineer won't allow Alekseev to sweep him here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alekseev keeping moving, preventing Engineer from controlling successfully.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Polish Engineer hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Alekseev checks a leg kick nicely. Polish Engineer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A punch combination from Engineer misses. Alekseev takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Engineer on the wrong end of a nice hook. Engineer stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Oleg Alekseev's cut is getting worse. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Engineer tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Alekseev was well out of range. Poor timing from Engineer. Alekseev avoids a punch combination nicely.
Engineer throws a looping overhand right but Alekseev ducks down to avoid it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alekseev's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Engineer connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Alekseev scrambles back to his feet. Alekseev shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Engineer sprawls well. Engineer wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alekseev gets slowly back to his feet. Alekseev takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Nice takedown defense from Engineer. No joy for Alekseev on that attempt. Engineer misses the body punch and Alekseev counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Alekseev walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Alekseev rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Engineer counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Engineer darts in and out, connecting with a jab. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Polish Engineer dominated that round. The cut man is working on Oleg Alekseev's cut. That's time! Alekseev's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Engineer closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Alekseev! Engineer dives in looking to finish! Alekseev is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Polish Engineer! Polish Engineer seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
