Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tony Goldman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mike Messner! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Danga de danga de dang - Messner scores with a four punch combination! Goldman checks a low kick from Messner. Goldman shoots in but no luck this time. Goldman tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Messner scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Messner throws a right and a left that Goldman avoids nicely. Goldman slips a jab from Messner. A swing and a miss from Messner. An inside leg kick from Messner misses. Messner blocks a jab. Messner throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Goldman sees it coming and avoids it easily. Goldman misses with a head kick.

Goldman throws a sloppy head kick and Messner moves out of range easily. The fighters circle momentarily. Messner darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Messner connects with the punch. Messner throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Goldman on the side of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. A left lands for Messner. Goldman keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Goldman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Messner pinned against the cage. Messner gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Messner stuffs the takedown attempt from Goldman. Goldman gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Goldman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Messner connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Goldman checks a low kick from Messner. Messner pivots, looking for a leg kick but Goldman is out of range and Messner settles back down. Messner connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Messner misses with a low kick. Messner throws a lazy right hand but Goldman sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Messner misses with a wild combination.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Messner moves out of range as Goldman strikes. Mike Messner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Messner misses with a low kick as Goldman jumps back. Messner lands a jab. Messner throws a shot from downtown. Goldman moves away and avoids it. A looping hook to the body misses from Messner. Goldman does a little dance to reset his feet. Goldman shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Messner napping and manages to drive through into side control! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Messner tries to bench press Goldman off him but Goldman keeps the position. Goldman grinds an elbow into Messner's temple. Goldman looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Messner wants to get back to his feet but Goldman drags him back down. Messner taking a bit of punishment here - Goldman scoring with strikes. Goldman is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Messner has escaped the position, nice work there. Goldman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Goldman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Messner tries to improve position but can't. Goldman is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Messner is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Goldman is trying to land an Americana. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Goldman thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Goldman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Messner knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Messner manages to work his way to half guard, despite Goldman's best efforts. Goldman passes to full mount! Messner is bucking up trying to escape but Goldman cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Goldman scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Goldman dominating with strikes here. Goldman is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Messner has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Messner! Goldman is looking for a triangle but Messner pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Goldman looking to control.

Messner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Goldman swivels though and keeps the full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Messner slips a straight right by Goldman. Goldman feints and as Messner raises his hands in defense, Goldman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Goldman works over Messner with some ground and pound from guard. Messner looking for a sweep. Not yet Messner, not yet. Goldman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Goldman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Goldman working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Messner's head. Messner is trying to control the position but Goldman postures up. Goldman is pushing down on Messner's leg trying to pass to half guard. Messner is fighting to maintain full guard but Goldman has managed to sneak the leg through. Messner is trying to control but can't.
Goldman is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Messner has managed to free his arm - good work. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Goldman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Goldman connects with a nice short shot to Messner's temple.
That's one minute gone in the round. Goldman seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Messner is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
