PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dexter Redshaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Kennedy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Redshaw comes to the cage accompanied by ACDC - Skies on Fire. Dexter Redshaw could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Marcus Kennedy's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 3, fighting out of Sydney, Dexter Redshaw!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marcus Kennedy!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Hugh Johnson and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kennedy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Redshaw tries to avoid it but Kennedy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Redshaw to the ground. Redshaw escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kennedy shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Redshaw pinned against the cage. Redshaw gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Kennedy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Redshaw makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Kennedy really felt that one!
Dexter Redshaw has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Kennedy.

Kennedy manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Redshaw on his heels. He'll look to pass Redshaw's guard now, I'm sure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Redshaw is trying to control the position but Kennedy postures up.
Redshaw tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kennedy passes into half guard.

Kennedy is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Redshaw trying to control from the bottom.
Redshaw gets back to full guard.
Kennedy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kennedy is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Redshaw not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Redshaw is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Redshaw bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kennedy's guard.

Redshaw wants to pass the guard but Kennedy is keeping the position.
Redshaw missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Redshaw throws a strike but Kennedy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Kennedy wants to control from the top but Redshaw keeps moving.

Kennedy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kennedy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kennedy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Redshaw manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kennedy has Redshaw in his guard.
Redshaw lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kennedy had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Redshaw defends it easily.
Redshaw throwing strikes from guard but Kennedy blocks nicely.
Redshaw with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Redshaw working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Redshaw landing some decent shots from guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Redshaw is looking to work some ground and pound but Kennedy has wrist control.
Redshaw is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Redshaw avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kennedy wants to get back to his feet but Redshaw is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Kennedy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Kennedy working for submissions but it's allowed Redshaw to get to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kennedy tries to roll over but Redshaw keeps him under control.
Redshaw scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Redshaw is looking for a kimura but Kennedy is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Redshaw to get the leverage.
Redshaw thows a huge punch but Kennedy dodges it nicely.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Redshaw connects with a nice short shot to Kennedy's temple.

Redshaw looking to finish Kennedy with some ground and pound. This is bad for Kennedy!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Redshaw connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Kennedy keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Kennedy in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.


Kennedy is rocked!
Redshaw breaks from Kennedy's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Kennedy is still in real trouble! Can Redshaw finish him?
Oooooh, big shot lands for Redshaw! Kennedy is hurt baaadly! Redshaw is firing away with more strikes - Kennedy is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dexter Redshaw!
