PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Cat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Killjoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kevin Killjoy will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tom Cat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Kevin Killjoy!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Killjoy throws a combination. Cat tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Cat scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Cat is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Killjoy knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Cat cracks Killjoy with a big right hand but Killjoy just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.


It looks like Kevin Killjoy has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cat tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Cat is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Killjoy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Killjoy is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Cat has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Cat will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Cat fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Killjoy wants to get back to his feet but Cat drags him back down.
Cat throws an elbow but Killjoy slips to the side and avoids it well.
Cat is looking to take a break and control but Killjoy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Cat is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Killjoy has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cat throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Killjoy works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Killjoy looks like he's trying to stand up.
Cat thows a huge punch but Killjoy dodges it nicely.
Cat thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Killjoy's head.
Cat looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Killjoy has one foot on Cat's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Killjoy forces Cat back against the cage and clinches.
Killjoy fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Killjoy lands a left hand.
Killjoy has a couple of punches blocked by Cat.

Cat gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Cat thows a huge punch but Killjoy dodges it nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Killjoy is trying to stand up here but Cat is controlling him well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cat thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Cat passes the guard and advances to mount!
Cat misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cat lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Cat breaks from Killjoy's wrist control and lands an elbow.


That has opened up Kevin Killjoy's cut even more.
Cat scores with a couple of good head shots there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cat is defended easily by Killjoy.


The cut above Kevin Killjoy's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Killjoy closes the distance and clinches.
Killjoy lands an elbow just above Cat 's eye.
Killjoy lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Cat successfully pulls guard.
Cat has a closed guard, preventing Killjoy from standing up.
Killjoy stopping the sweep attempt from Cat.

Cat has his foot on Killjoy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Killjoy works his way back into a safe position though.

Cat doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Cat has a closed guard, preventing Killjoy from standing up.

Cat has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Killjoy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Cat has an active guard here but Killjoy has managed to pass into half guard.

Cat is trying to control but can't.
Cat is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Cat manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Cat wants to improve his position but instead Killjoy has moved into half guard.
Killjoy tries to stand but can't do so whilst Cat controls his leg.

Killjoy stops Cat from getting back to his feet.
Cat tries to get to full guard but Killjoy has control of the leg.

Cat is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Killjoy pulls his head out easily.
Killjoy blocks the strikes from Cat.
Killjoy tries to stand but can't do so whilst Cat controls his leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cat wants to improve his position but Killjoy is controlling well.
Cat slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Cat throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Cat is trying to keep Killjoy in close.
Killjoy preventing the sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Kevin Killjoy's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Killjoy misses with a head kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Killjoy.
Killjoy misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cat on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Killjoy shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Killjoy closes the distance and clinches.
Killjoy throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Cat content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Cat blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Cat wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Killjoy has him pressed against the cage.
Killjoy is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Killjoy gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Killjoy is looking to break free of the clinch but Cat has double underhooks.
Killjoy tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Cat avoids it.
Killjoy pushes off an throws an elbow but Cat leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Cat blocks a body shot from Killjoy.
Killjoy is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Cat tries to pull guard but Killjoy forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Cat keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Killjoy's efforts to push away.
Cat avoids the elbow strike from Killjoy, against the cage.

Killjoy manages to break the clinch.

Killjoy drives through and clinches with Cat against the cage.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Killjoy just misses with a elbow thrown towards Cat's brow.
With the fighters up against the cage, Killjoy throws an elbow but misses.
Cat drops down looking for an ankle pick but Killjoy pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tom Cat. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Killjoy clinches up against the cage.
Killjoy misses with a punch on the inside.
Cat dodges an elbow strike from Killjoy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A frustrated look appears on Cat's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Killjoy lands an elbow that stopped Cat in his tracks for a moment.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Killjoy.

Cat gets control of Killjoy's arms and successfully pulls guard. Cat will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Cat trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Cat working for a triangle but Killjoy defends it easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Killjoy wants to stand but Cat has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Kevin Killjoy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Cat is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Killjoy defends well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cat controls Killjoy momentarily but Killjoy frees himself.
Cat punching to the body, from the bottom.

Cat had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Killjoy defends it easily.

Killjoy got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cat has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Killjoy has managed to get both his arms back between Cat's legs - danger averted.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cat looking to hit a scissor sweep but Killjoy is one step ahead there.
Killjoy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Cat is proving hard to escape from.

Cat looking for subs off his back but Killjoy has passed one foot through into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cat looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Kevin Killjoy.
I think Cat has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
