PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John McGuirk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tootsie Roll (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John McGuirk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tootsie Roll! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McGuirk is trying hard to land a takedown here. Roll sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Roll throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. McGuirk moves away from the strike by Roll. Roll misses with a body kick. McGuirk lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Roll lands with a straight right. McGuirk didn't see that one coming. McGuirk has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Roll. Roll gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows McGuirk to score an easy takedown into full guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Roll wants to get back to his feet but McGuirk is in a dominant position and won't allow it. McGuirk content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. McGuirk is working Roll over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. McGuirk prevents Roll from getting back to his feet. McGuirk thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGuirk is pushing down on Roll's leg trying to pass to half guard. Roll is fighting to maintain full guard but McGuirk has managed to sneak the leg through. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McGuirk takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. McGuirk trying to mount his opponent but Roll defends it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roll can do anything to dispel that myth. Roll is looking to escape. McGuirk passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Roll! McGuirk raining down shots from the mount! McGuirk controlling from mount. McGuirk will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Roll wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McGuirk is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Roll has managed to escape the submission attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Roll tries to buck McGuirk off but he can't manage it. McGuirk is landing with some decent strikes but Roll is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. McGuirk sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. McGuirk putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! McGuirk controlling the pace for now. McGuirk unloading with bombs! McGuirk looking for a guillotine from mount but Roll is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McGuirk working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Roll turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips McGuirk off and cradles Roll's limp body as McGuirk celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). John McGuirk! John McGuirk decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
