PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Denny Prokopos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryan Bishop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Prokopos kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Deep River Blues - Doc Watson. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Denny Prokopos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bryan Bishop!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bishop with a lazy takedown attempt

and Prokopos counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Bishop's guard now.
Prokopos wants to control from the top but Bishop keeps moving.
Prokopos trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Prokopos looking to sit in guard and control but Bishop gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Bishop is stalling in the full guard.
Prokopos looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bishop is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Prokopos is looking for a triangle but Bishop pushes his legs off easily.
Bishop trying to control the position from guard on top but Prokopos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Bryan Bishop hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Bishop closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Prokopos to the mat! Prokopos manages to get full guard.
Prokopos wants to sweep here but Bishop controlling him for the moment.
Prokopos is working hard here to advance position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bishop trying to control but Prokopos is working from the bottom.
Bishop's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Bishop throwing strikes from guard but Prokopos blocks nicely.

Prokopos throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Bishop escapes and throws Prokopos's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Prokopos is looking for a sweep.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bishop controls the position.
Prokopos on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Bishop trying to control the position but Prokopos is working away.
Prokopos stops Bishop from passing to mount.
Prokopos is looking to regain half guard here but Bishop keeps moving and retains side control.
Prokopos manages to get back to half guard.

Prokopos looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Bishop wants to control but Prokopos is keeping him busy.
Prokopos really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bishop with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
It looks like Bishop might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Prokopos is pressing down on Bishop's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Bishop slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Bishop has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bryan Bishop has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Bishop tries for a takedown but Prokopos sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Bishop shoots in and gets a takedown into Prokopos's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bryan Bishop dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Bishop misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Prokopos throws a one two combo.
Prokopos shoots in but Bishop avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Bishop is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Prokopos.
Bishop misses with a low kick.
Prokopos misses with a takedown attempt

and Bishop counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Bishop missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Bishop lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Bishop is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Prokopos has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Bishop is looking to defend but Prokopos has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Bishop! Prokopos pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Bishop taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Denny Prokopos!
An intense looking Denny Prokopos took to the microphone post fight and gave a little speech: 'I always thought the removal of toes with a bolt cutter was rather humane '.
