PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Akira Jimbo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diasaku Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Sosuke Kotani and Taro Takaoka.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jimbo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jimbo moves in looking to clinch but Machida pushes him off.

Jimbo throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Machida tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jimbo is in Machida's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Machida is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jimbo is aware though and is defending well.
Jimbo stops Machida from standing up.
Jimbo trying to control but Machida is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machida controls Jimbo momentarily but Jimbo frees himself.

Machida escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jimbo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jimbo looking to sit in guard and control but Machida gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jimbo pushes Machida off and gets back to his feet.

Jimbo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Machida closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Machida circles away from the clinch attempt.

Machida pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Jimbo back to the cage. Machida follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Machida connects with a body shot.

Jimbo is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Machida explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Machida misses with a head kick.
Jimbo throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A head kick from Machida lands but Jimbo takes it in his stride.
Oh Jimbo is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jimbo takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Jimbo shoots for a takedown but Machida saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jimbo seems to have got his legs back now.
Machida tries a head kick but it misses.
Jimbo fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jimbo is breathing heavily.
Machida goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Machida throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Jimbo's head.
Jimbo throws a jab when Machida was well out of range.
Jimbo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Machida manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jimbo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Akira Jimbo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Machida goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Jimbo crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Machida - the referee stops the clock and Jimbo gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Machida. Jimbo manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Jimbo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Machida is trying to maintain the position but Jimbo is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Machida manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Jimbo trying to control the position from guard on top but Machida is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Machida bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jimbo's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Machida won't let Jimbo get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Jimbo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Machida on the ground.

Machida has control of Jimbo's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jimbo regains control of the situation pretty easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Jimbo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Jimbo is looking to clinch but Machida is avoiding it.
Machida cracks Jimbo with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Jimbo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Machida has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jimbo's face.
Jimbo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Diasaku Machida showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Machida keeps control of Jimbo as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Machida escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Machida throws a head kick that half lands.
Jimbo moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Jimbo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jimbo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Machida keeps working.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Machida cracks Jimbo with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Diasaku Machida comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Machida has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
