0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Muslim Magomaev! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Dmitry Maklakov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Magomaev stuffs the takedown. Laur Balaur seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice takedown defense from Magomaev. No joy for Balaur on that attempt. Balaur moves in looking to clinch but Magomaev pushes him off. Balaur moves in looking to clinch but Magomaev pushes him off. Balaur shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Laur Balaur. That's going to take a lot out of him. Balaur shoots in for a takedown but Magomaev shows good takedown defense. Balaur moves into the clinch successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round. Magomaev wanted to stand there but Balaur had control of the position. Balaur looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Magomaev passes easily into side control. Nice work. Balaur is looking to regain half guard here but Magomaev keeps moving and retains side control. Balaur struggling a bit here. Magomaev tries to advance position but instead Balaur slips a leg back in to half guard. Balaur trying to control here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Magomaev trying to pass the guard but Balaur defending well. Balaur missing with punches from the bottom.
Magomaev wants to advance to full mount but Balaur doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Magomaev preventing the sweep.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Balaur fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Balaur shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Balaur is breathing heavily. Balaur pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Balaur swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Balaur shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Balaur was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Balaur is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Magomaev can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Balaur avoids the attempt from Magomaev to control. Balaur scoring with strikes but Magomaev is staying in there. Magomaev is trying desperately to improve position. Balaur sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Magomaev wants to control but Balaur is having none of it. Magomaev working to try and regain half guard.
Balaur thowing shots but they're missing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Magomaev bucks Balaur off and manages to get back to his feet! Magomaev takes the fight into the clinch. Balaur stalling in the clinch but Magomaev improves position. Balaur wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Magomaev is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Balaur pulls him back up using the underhooks. Magomaev taking a breather. Balaur tries to score a body lock takedown but Magomaev shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Magomaev is working for takedown but Balaur is calmly controlling the position for now. Balaur jumps into guard, dragging Magomaev to the mat.
Balaur has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Magomaev doesn't defend quickly enough and Balaur has managed to lock this one up! Can Magomaev escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Balaur on a fantastic submission victory.
