Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mano Soares! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frank Carlyle! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Edson Gomes and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carlyle's corner calls for a 1-2. Carlyle obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
It looks like Mano Soares has been cut. Carlyle will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Nice sprawl there from Soares as Carlyle shoots in. Left hook, right uppercut from Carlyle. Frank Carlyle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A punch combination from Carlyle misses. Carlyle closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Soares to the mat! Soares manages to get full guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Carlyle chips away with some ground and pound. Soares throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Carlyle trying to control but Soares is working from the bottom. Carlyle postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Soares looking for a guillotine here but Carlyle defends easily.
Soares has his foot on Carlyle's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carlyle works his way back into a safe position though. Carlyle scoring with some ground and pound. Soares will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carlyle got a little sloppy there for a moment and Soares has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carlyle has managed to get both his arms back between Soares's legs - danger averted. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Carlyle advances to half guard. Soares is refusing to be controlled, as Carlyle sits in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Carlyle is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Soares actively working from the bottom here. Soares wants to improve his position but Carlyle is controlling well.
Carlyle lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Ground and pound from Carlyle. Carlyle moves into full mount! Soares won't be happy about that! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Carlyle lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Soares hang on?
Soares is rocked!
Mano Soares's cut is getting worse. Carlyle loads up with a big shot that hurts Soares! He's pulled Carlyle in close but Carlyle has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Soares survive? More strikes from Carlyle and Soares is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
