PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Ambrose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Douglas Fergleson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fergleson has chosen Can't Be Touched as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Douglas Fergleson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chris Ambrose!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Douglas Fergleson!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Ryoma Takatsuka and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fergleson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ambrose avoids it really well and circles away.
Nice jab there from Ambrose.


It looks like Douglas Fergleson has been cut.
Fergleson fails to land the takedown.
Ambrose throws a right and a left that Fergleson avoids nicely.
Ambrose lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Fergleson circles away quickly and effectively.
Ambrose tries to bum rush Fergleson with a series of wild strikes but Fergleson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ambrose scores with a jab.
No joy there for Ambrose, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ambrose lands with a nice combination. Fergleson backs away looking to recover.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ambrose throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ambrose misses with a double jab

and Fergleson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ambrose's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Ambrose lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Fergleson!

Ambrose is looking to stand but Ambrose has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Fergleson is looking to get to half guard.
Fergleson tries to lock up and control but Ambrose gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Ambrose trying to control but Fergleson is having none of it.
Fergleson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Ambrose controlling the position easily from mount.
Ambrose's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chris Ambrose.
Ambrose misses with a series of wild punches.
Ambrose feints a jab promting Fergleson to slip. Ambrose then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Fergleson slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Chris Ambrose has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Douglas Fergleson.
Ambrose misses with a few strikes there.
Ambrose stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ambrose wants it to stay on the feet.
Fergleson shoots in for a double leg but Ambrose sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ambrose misses with a wild combination.
Ambrose feints a jab promting Fergleson to slip. Ambrose then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Fergleson slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
No joy there for Ambrose, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ambrose throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Fergleson's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Ambrose dives in looking to finish as Fergleson flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Ambrose's strikes! Ambrose is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Fergleson's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Fergleson was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chris Ambrose!
Post fight, Chris Ambrose took to the microphone: 'Jacob Saunders.. I Want YOU big guy. I knock the teeth out of you!'.
