Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steven Hopkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steven Hopkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Doe!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, John Mangel and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Doe scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hopkins tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Hopkins is not content to let Doe control the position.
Doe connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Hopkins some visible discomfort.
Hopkins is trying to get back to half guard.
Doe laying and praying for a moment but Hopkins takes advantage and regains half guard.
Doe sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Hopkins defending well though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hopkins trying to control but Doe postures up.
Doe blocks the strikes from Hopkins.

Hopkins is looking to improve his position.
Doe is thwarting Hopkins's attempts to control the position.
Hopkins wants to control but Doe passes into side.
Hopkins looking for a sweep but Doe has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Doe wants to control but Hopkins has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Doe lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Doe is taking a breather. Hopkins says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Hopkins is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Doe pulls his head out easily.
Hopkins is looking to improve his position.
Doe working the head and body with strikes.

Hopkins has one foot on Doe's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Doe tries to keep at a distance but Hopkins has taken the fight into the clinch.
Doe keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hopkins's efforts to push away.

Doe manages to pull guard.
Doe will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Doe has his foot on Hopkins's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hopkins works his way back into a safe position though.
Hopkins tries to free his leg and advance position but Doe is retaining full guard.
Hopkins trying to control but Doe is working from the bottom.
Hopkins won't allow Doe to sweep him here.
Doe is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Doe manages to get to full guard.

Doe is looking for a triangle but Hopkins pushes his legs off easily.
Hopkins trying to control but Doe is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Doe throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hopkins escapes and throws Doe's legs to the side, diving into side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Doe dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Hopkins instigates a clinch.
Doe jumps guard but Hopkins turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Doe jumps guard but Hopkins stands there with Doe around his waist. Doe gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Hopkins misses with a punch on the inside.
Doe goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hopkins prevents it.
Steven Hopkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Doe.
Doe goes for a takedown attempt but Hopkins pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Hopkins shoots in but Doe avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Doe tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Hopkins manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Doe shoots in for a takedown but Hopkins shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Hopkins has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hopkins's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Hopkins wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hopkins is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Doe manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Hopkins preventing the sweep.
Doe has Hopkins pulled in close to control his posture.
Doe is breathing heavily.

Doe is working an open guard so Hopkins takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hopkins is looking to slow Doe down with leg kicks.
Hopkins ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Doe moves away.

Hopkins scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hopkins perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Doe is not content to let Hopkins control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hopkins is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Doe keeping moving, preventing Hopkins from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hopkins decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Doe, up you get!
Hopkins fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Doe is out of range.
Doe looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hopkins is fending him off so far but Doe persists. Nope, Hopkins circles away and we're back to standing.
Doe slaps away a takedown attempt from Hopkins, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hopkins displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Doe.

Hopkins throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Doe was covering up waiting for the punch and Hopkins finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hopkins's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Doe trying to keep a closed guard but Hopkins is proving a slippery customer.
Doe preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Hopkins stands and throws Doe's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Doe is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Doe tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Hopkins easily slips into full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Doe blocks a head kick by Hopkins.
Doe chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Hopkins has a takedown stuffed.
Hopkins swats away the attempt to clinch by Doe.
Doe pushes Hopkins away with a front kick.
Doe leaves Hopkins with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Nice takedown defense from Hopkins. No joy for Doe on that attempt.
Doe shoots in but Hopkins avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Doe scores with a takedown into Hopkins's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hopkins looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Doe is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hopkins is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hopkins has escaped and now he's on top!
Doe wants to stand up but Hopkins is controlling him.
Hopkins advances position into side control!

Hopkins is looking to take a break and control but Doe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Hopkins tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Hopkins scoring with punches from side control.

Hopkins wants to lay and pray for a moment but Doe keeps working.
Hopkins gets to mount! Doe was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Hopkins is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Hopkins goes for an armbar but Doe turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Doe.
Hopkins tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hopkins trying to control the position.

Doe wants to control from the top but Hopkins keeps moving.
Hopkins working a defensive guard here.

Hopkins had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Doe defends it easily.
Doe engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Steven Hopkins.
Well Hopkins has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
