PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Unitas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Riad Radyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 1, fighting out of New York, David Unitas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Riad Radyan!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Albert Achterberg and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Radyan doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Unitas counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Radyan's guard now.
Unitas controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Radyan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Unitas is aware though and is defending well.
Unitas is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Unitas is stalling in the full guard.

Radyan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Unitas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Unitas manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Radyan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Unitas pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Radyan is looking for a sweep. Unitas is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Unitas is taking a breather. Radyan says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

We're going to have a standup here because David Unitas wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

and Unitas counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Unitas controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Radyan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Unitas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Radyan has an active guard here but Unitas has managed to pass into half guard.

Radyan is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Unitas jumps into side control!
Unitas connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Radyan some visible discomfort.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Radyan is trying to get back to half guard.
Radyan gets back to half guard.
Radyan wants to improve his position but Unitas is controlling well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Unitas looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Unitas's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Radyan looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Unitas has picked Radyan up and slammed him! Radyan can't keep hold of the triangle and Unitas manages to pass to side control!

Unitas tries for a kimura but Radyan is defending well.

Unitas looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Radyan with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

David Unitas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Unitas moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Radyan.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Unitas landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Unitas is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Unitas dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Unitas is pawing at Radyan, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Radyan's nose. Radyan is badly hurt! Unitas pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Radyan tries desperately to hold on but Unitas is relentless in his assault! As Radyan receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Unitas away and this one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). David Unitas!
