PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Ling (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Ngo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ling's entrance music is Parkway Drive - Hollow Man. A fine choice. The key to victory for Jeff Ling has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jeff Ling!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Henry Ngo!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ngo moves out of range of the strikes.
Ngo fails with a takedown attempt.
Ngo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ling sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ngo somewhat.

Ngo dives in and scores a takedown into Ling's guard.
Ngo trying to control the position from guard on top but Ling is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ngo won't allow Ling to sweep him here.
Ngo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ling swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Henry Ngo wasn't active enough on the ground.
Ngo ducks under a wild hook from Ling.

Ngo shoots in for a double leg but Ling sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jeff Ling has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Henry Ngo.

Ngo creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Ling sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ling is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Ling tries to buck Ngo off but Ngo is having none of it.
Ngo in side control lands a decent elbow.
Ngo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Ngo misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Ngo throws an elbow but Ling slips to the side and avoids it well.
Ngo is looking to take a break and control but Ling is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ngo looks up at the clock and then as Ling takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Ngo smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Ngo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ngo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ngo is looking to take a break and control but Ling is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Ling is trying to control Ngo's posture but Ngo avoids it.
Ngo looks up at the clock and then as Ling takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Ngo smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ling gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Ngo wants to control the pace but Ling is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Henry Ngo dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Ngo changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ling fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Ngo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ling but Ling pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ngo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Horrible takedown by Ngo or perhaps it was just good defense by Ling which made him look bad.

and Ling counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Jeff Ling is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ling dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Ngo. That did some damage!
Ngo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Ling manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Ling throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Ling has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ngo is working away from the top position though.

Ngo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ling is just riding it out for now. Ngo eventually gives up the hold.

Ngo is stalling here. Ling is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Ngo seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Ling has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Ngo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ling lands a body shot.
Henry Ngo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ngo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Ling gets caught flat footed, as Ngo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ling is on top in guard.
Ngo seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Ling sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ngo's guard.

Ling gets to his feet. Ngo looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Ling rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ngo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ling keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ling lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ngo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ling works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Ngo postures up in Ling's guard and throws a big left but Ling blocks it.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ngo in particular looking to stall.
Ngo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ling does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ling is staying active underneath Ngo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ngo misses with a head shot. Ling uses the momentum to regain guard.
Ngo passes Ling's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Ngo frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ling takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ngo trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ngo is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ling to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ling shrugs it off.

Henry Ngo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ngo winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
