PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jaromir Jagr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John The Iron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jaromir Jagr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John The Iron!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Fedor Mirinova and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from The Iron misses its intended target.
Jagr swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by The Iron.
The Iron with a poor takedown

and Jagr counters with a shoot takedown. The Iron fights it but they end up in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The Iron working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jagr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jagr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The Iron is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jagr is aware though and is defending well.
Jagr might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jagr loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The Iron is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The Iron is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Jagr has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Jagr keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of The Iron's head.

The Iron is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jagr knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for The Iron on the ground.
Jagr trying to control the position from guard on top but The Iron is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The Iron has momentary wrist control but Jagr slips an elbow through the middle.
Jagr lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Jagr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as The Iron works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The Iron trying to keep a closed guard but Jagr is proving a slippery customer.
The Iron bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jagr's guard.
The Iron trying to control the position from guard on top but Jagr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The Iron is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jagr wants to improve his position but instead The Iron has moved into half guard.
The Iron passes to full mount!
Jagr tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Jagr trying to control the hands but The Iron breaks the grip.
The Iron controlling well, preventing Jagr from escaping the position.
Jagr looking very determined here, making life difficult for The Iron.
The Iron really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Jagr.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The Iron looking to break Jagr's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Jagr remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise The Iron will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

I really don't envy Jagr right now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jagr just trying to survive but The Iron is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Jagr tries to roll but The Iron sticks to his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The Iron is working for a rear naked choke. Jagr is not defending it well and The Iron has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Jagr refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Jagr's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). John The Iron!
