PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Speedy Light (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Raith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas Raith told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Speedy Light!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 17 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Thomas Raith!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Light will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Light lands a two punch combo.
Raith tries to move into range but Light moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Raith misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Light shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Raith eats them both and turns towards Light to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Raith is rocked!

It looks like Thomas Raith has been cut.
Raith showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Light.
Sloppy strikes from Light. Those never looked like landing.
Light throws a lazy right hand but Raith sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Raith.

Raith closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Light escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Thomas Raith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Light lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Raith shoots in for a double leg but Light sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Speedy Light has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Raith.
Light connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Light cracks Raith with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Light throws a shot to the body.
Light works over Raith's head and body with a nice combination.
Raith is still on wobbly legs! Can Light finish him?
Light misses with a double jab.
Raith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Light sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Raith somewhat.
Raith seems to have recovered his senses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Light throws a one two combo.
Raith avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Light scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Light darts in and clinches Raith up against the cage.
Raith tries to stall but Light uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Light's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Light, as that shot connected.

Raith moves into the clinch successfully.
Raith has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Light avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Light misses with a punch to the body.

Light's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Light uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Light connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Nice uppercut there from Light.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Light drops Raith with a beautiful combination! Raith stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Light is looking for the KO!
Light swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Raith loses concentration momentarily and Light pounces with a three punch combo! Right, left, right! Raith crashes face first to the mat, out cold! Light finishes this one with a fantastically precise combo! Great stuff.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Speedy Light!
