Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kang Ho Song! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jim Rayne! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Wagner Zegers and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rayne misses with a takedown and Song decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rayne's guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Song's corner is telling him to maintain position. Song wants to control from the top but Rayne keeps moving. Song won't allow Rayne to sweep him here. Rayne looks winded! Song is looking to work some ground and pound but Rayne has wrist control. Song is working Rayne over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Song is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Rayne is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Rayne has escaped and now he's on top! Song trying to control the position here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Song has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Song bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rayne's guard. Song postures up and lands a big shot to Rayne's brow. Song controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Song throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rayne works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Song showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Rayne is looking to stand up but Song isn't so interested in that idea. Song pushing down on Rayne's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Rayne on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Song perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Rayne is looking to escape. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Song winds up and cracks Rayne with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Song takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rayne is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Song's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Song's back!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rayne is trying to stick to Song's back but Song is turning into Rayne. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Rayne's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Song. Song content to stall in guard here. Song trying to control the position from guard on top but Rayne is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Song trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Song working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Song pushing down on Rayne's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Song seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rayne does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Song trying to pass the guard but Rayne defending well. Song wants to control but Rayne is keeping him busy. Rayne on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Song seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Song throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Song passes to full mount! Song has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Rayne is forced to tap!
