Austin comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Stone Cold theme kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Steve Austin has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Burgess Meredith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Austin!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Austin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Meredith.
Austin fails with a takedown attempt.
Austin fails to land with a series of punches.
Meredith showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Austin.
Steve Austin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Austin rushes Meredith and presses him up against the cage.
Austin prevents Meredith from breaking the clinch.
Austin is trying to drag Meredith to the mat but Meredith just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
A frustrated look appears on Meredith's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Austin tries to pull guard but Meredith holds him up against the cage and eventually Austin drops back down to his feet.
Burgess Meredith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Austin.
Austin misses with some punches.
Meredith has had enough of the clinch but Austin keeps him there for the moment.
Meredith is looking for a takedown.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Austin blocks a body shot from Meredith.
Austin is trying to break the clinch but Meredith has him pressed against the cage.
Meredith wants to get back to striking at distance but Austin won't allow it.
Meredith fails to pull guard.
Meredith tries to pull guard but Austin forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Meredith tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Austin just stands there and leans against the cage.
Meredith tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Austin smiles and moves away.

Austin moves into the clinch successfully.
Meredith tries to break the clinch but Austin is controlling the position.
Meredith tries to circle away but Austin has him pinned against the cage.
Austin is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Meredith gets underhooks to prevent Austin's takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Austin jumps guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Austin wants to stand and escape but Meredith is having none of it.
Meredith pushes down on Austin's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Meredith slows the pace down in half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Meredith gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Austin displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Austin tries a low kick but Meredith avoids it.
Austin looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Austin lands a jab to Meredith's midsection.
A looping hook to the body misses from Austin. Meredith does a little dance to reset his feet.
Austin misses with a few strikes there.
Meredith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Austin's waist but Austin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Meredith off to one side.
Meredith shoots in for a takedown but Austin shows good takedown defense.
Meredith bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Meredith tries to close the distance and clinch up but Austin swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Austin swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Meredith counters with a single leg into guard. Austin didn't expect that.
Austin looks winded!
Meredith passes Austin's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Meredith decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Meredith shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Meredith showed some decent athleticism there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Meredith takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Meredith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Austin keeps working.
Austin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Meredith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Austin is kicking away at Meredith from the bottom - trying to push off and stand up. Meredith grabs hold of a leg and drops back for a heel hook! The two fighters roll across the mat, with Austin trying to push Meredith off... Austin taps! He's tapped! This one is all over! A throwback to the old Pancrase there with an infrequently seen submission hold! Nice work.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Heel Hook). Burgess Meredith!
