PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Radmir Malyutin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick McGowen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Radmir Malyutin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Patrick McGowen!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGowen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
McGowen keeps the fight on the outside.
A good leg kick by McGowen.

McGowen gets a takedown into half guard.
McGowen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Malyutin keeps working.
McGowen is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
McGowen has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Malyutin works to full guard.

McGowen seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Malyutin rushes McGowen and presses him up against the cage.
McGowen managing to block the knees to the body from Malyutin.

McGowen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Malyutin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

McGowen wants to sweep but no luck.
Malyutin tries to free his leg and advance position but McGowen is retaining full guard.
McGowen keeping moving, preventing Malyutin from controlling successfully.

McGowen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McGowen might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Malyutin kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

McGowen is looking to clinch.

and McGowen counters with a head kick.
Malyutin tries to close the distance and clinch up but McGowen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
McGowen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Malyutin counters with a takedown into side control.
McGowen tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Malyutin gets to mount! McGowen was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

McGowen tries to control the position but Malyutin now has his back.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Malyutin darts in trying to clinch

and McGowen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

McGowen is looking to work some ground and pound but Malyutin has wrist control.
McGowen lands a couple of elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Malyutin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McGowen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
McGowen is fighting to break Malyutin's control of his arms but Malyutin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Malyutin looking for submissions from the bottom but instead McGowen passes into side control.
Radmir Malyutin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Malyutin is not content to let McGowen control the position.
Malyutin is pushing McGowen's head away, looking to escape. McGowen manages to hold on to the position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

McGowen looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Malyutin is trying to get back to half guard.
Malyutin is trying to control McGowen's posture but McGowen avoids it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Malyutin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

McGowen looks to land a combination but Malyutin avoids it well.
A head kick by McGowen misses

and Malyutin counters with a takedown into side control.
Malyutin has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Malyutin tries to control but McGowen wriggling away.

Malyutin stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Malyutin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Malyutin lands in his opponent's guard.
McGowen wants to sweep here but Malyutin controlling him for the moment.

McGowen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Malyutin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

McGowen is trying to keep Malyutin in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Radmir Malyutin dominated that second round.
That's time! Malyutin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


No luck for Malyutin with that takedown attempt.

McGowen is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Malyutin has latched onto it... Big trouble! Malyutin pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it McGowen is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Malyutin!
