PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andy Marlow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Landry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Andy Marlow has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Andy Marlow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Landry!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Landry looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Landry closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Marlow looks like he's trying to stand up.
Landry is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Landry is looking for a kimura here.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jake Landry.
Marlow fakes the leg kick and cracks Landry in the body.
Marlow thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Landry if he has to take too many more of those.
Andy Marlow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Marlow looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Marlow moves in looking to clinch but Landry pushes him off.

and Landry counters with a series of strikes. Marlow will be more careful next time no doubt.

Landry feints and as Marlow raises his hands in defense, Landry changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Landry is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Marlow is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Marlow has escaped and now he's on top!

Marlow misses with a takedown

and Landry counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Marlow's guard now.

Landry is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Marlow defends it well.

Landry tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Landry cracks Marlow with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Landry lands with a nice combination. Marlow backs away looking to recover.

Marlow gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Landry forces his way into half guard.
Landry wants to free his trapped foot but Marlow is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Landry is nestled in close to Marlow, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Landry lands a nice short elbow.

Marlow is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Landry scores with a couple of nice shots.
Landry is taking a breather. Marlow says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Landry stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Marlow to get to his feet.
Landry feints and then cracks Marlow's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Marlow down.

Landry closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Landry has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Marlow tries to sprawl but Landry drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Jake Landry is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Landry has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
