Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matt Morgernstern! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Rocky Blyer! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Morgernstern throws a front kick aimed at Blyer's knee but Blyer avoids it well. Morgernstern steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Blyer. Morgernstern throws a hook but Blyer avoids it easily. Morgernstern takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Blyer scores with a shot to the body.
Blyer throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Blyer misses with a wild combination.
Blyer lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Morgernstern circles away quickly and effectively. Blyer throws a right and a left that both miss. Morgernstern looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Blyer! The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Morgernstern tries for a kimura but Blyer is defending well. Morgernstern is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Blyer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. This has been an exciting period of action! Morgernstern tries for a kimura but Blyer is defending well. Blyer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Morgernstern. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Morgernstern tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Morgernstern has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Morgernstern tries to score with some ground and pound. Blyer controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Morgernstern working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Blyer tries to escape but Morgernstern is in control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Morgernstern sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Blyer is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Morgernstern scores with punches from side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Morgernstern lands a nice forearm strike. Morgernstern has knee on belly and moves into mount. Morgernstern is landing with some decent strikes but Blyer is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
It looks like Rocky Blyer has been cut. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Morgernstern tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Blyer is in a horrible position here. Morgernstern smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Blyer is rocked! Morgernstern looking to ground and pound but Blyer is blocking nicely. Morgernstern landing strikes, looking to finish! Blyer is still in real trouble! Can Morgernstern finish him? Morgernstern wants to finish this one by submission but Blyer is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Morgernstern. Blyer seems to have recovered his senses. Morgernstern is trying to take his opponent's back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Morgernstern looking to ground and pound but Blyer is blocking nicely. Blyer is trying to stand. Blyer is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Blyer avoids a series of strikes thrown by Morgernstern.
Morgernstern tries to control but Blyer wriggling away. Morgernstern looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Morgernstern thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Morgernstern throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Blyer has his hands clasped together but Morgernstern breaks the hold and Blyer is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Morgernstern!
