Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Theodor Isaacks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Felipe Pontes! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pontes tries for a takedown but Isaacks sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Pontes shoots in for a double leg but Isaacks sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Felipe Pontes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Pontes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Theodor Isaacks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Felipe Pontes. Isaacks misses with a wild body shot. Pontes misses with a takedown attempt - Isaacks sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Pontes shoots for a double leg takedown but Isaacks sprawls well. He's pushed Pontes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Pontes darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Pontes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Pontes stops Isaacks from getting back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Isaacks is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Isaacks wants to get back to his feet.
Pontes wants to work for an arm triangle but Isaacks is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Pontes works his way into side control. Pontes tries for a kimura but Isaacks is defending well. Isaacks tries to bench press Pontes off him but Pontes keeps the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Isaacks explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Isaacks keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Pontes. Pontes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Pontes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Pontes is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Isaacks is trying to escape and Pontes transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Isaacks is forced to tap! Nice work there by Pontes! Very nice indeed!
