The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Van Der Bash tries to clinch but Gehrig moves out of range. Gehrig scores with a jab to the head.
Van Der Bash fails in his attempt to clinch. Van Der Bash wants to clinch up but Gehrig keeps it at a distance. Gehrig avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Nope, Gehrig circles away and we're back to standing. Van Der Bash looks for a takedown but Gehrig sprawls well. Van Der Bash has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Van Der Bash there as he acknowledges the shot. Van Der Bash avoids the head kick by Gehrig.
Van Der Bash tries to clinch up but Gehrig circles away and keeps his distance. Gehrig throws a series of punches but Van Der Bash avoids them all with ease. Van Der Bash drives through and clinches with Gehrig against the cage.
Gehrig wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Van Der Bash has him pressed against the cage. Gehrig wants to get back to striking at distance but Van Der Bash won't allow it.
Gehrig wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Gehrig is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. A short right hand to the side of the head by Van Der Bash. Van Der Bash with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Gehrig wants to stall.

Gehrig is rocked! Van Der Bash pulls guard effortlessly. Gehrig is still in real trouble! Can Van Der Bash finish him? Van Der Bash manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gehrig manages to get himself to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Van Der Bash drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Van Der Bash jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Van Der Bash scoring with some ground and pound. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gehrig can do anything to dispel that myth. Van Der Bash passes Gehrig's left leg - he's now in half guard. Van Der Bash working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Gehrig is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Van Der Bash scores with a couple of nice shots. Van Der Bash is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Gehrig is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
