PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eric Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobo James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brooks comes into the arena with ZAO - the psalm of the city of the dead. blaring out of the sound system. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eric Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobo James!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brooks finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

James moves into range and clinches up with Brooks.

Brooks has clasped his hands together around James's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Brooks has knee on belly momentarily but James bucks him off and regains half guard.
James slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Brooks tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.
James preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
James keeping moving, preventing Brooks from controlling successfully.
Brooks trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

James working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Brooks.
Brooks chips away with some ground and pound.
James wants to sweep here but Brooks controlling him for the moment.
Brooks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Brooks postures up in James's guard and throws a big left but James blocks it.
Brooks cracks James with a solid left hand.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Brooks accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
James really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brooks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Brooks trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
James keeping full guard, as Brooks tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James wants to sweep here but Brooks controlling him for the moment.

Brooks wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position.
Brooks scoring with punches to the head and body.
James keeping full guard, as Brooks tries to pass.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brooks drops back, looking for a kneebar! James looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. James looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from James!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
James goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Brooks has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for James but great work by Brooks.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brooks tries to move to mount but James blocks the move with his legs.
Brooks has knee on belly momentarily but James bucks him off and regains half guard.

Brooks looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
James trying to hold on to Brooks's head to control him but Brooks postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brooks wants to free his trapped foot but James is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Brooks is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
James wants to control but Brooks is keeping busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

James changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Brooks looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

James goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Brooks rolls with the submission and now he's on top in James's guard! Nice work there by Brooks!
Brooks trying to control but James is working from the bottom.

James working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Brooks doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Brooks manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Brooks won't allow James to sweep him here.

Brooks drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but James manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Brooks has James in his guard.
James working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
James pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Brooks is keeping the position for now.

Brooks is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! James has his hands clasped together but Brooks extends an breaks James's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Brooks.
