Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ali Basra! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kyell Gold! The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Basra slaps away a takedown attempt from Gold, before circling back to the center of the mat. Gold tries for a takedown but Basra sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Kyell Gold seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Basra connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Basra leaves Gold with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Ali Basra has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyell Gold. Basra gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gold to score an easy takedown into full guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Basra is controlling Gold's posture. Gold trying to move into half guard but instead Basra has managed to sweep!
That's one minute gone in the round. Basra sitting in guard, not really doing much. Basra looking to pass the guard. Gold looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Basra slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ali Basra has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Gold closes this distance looking for a takedown but Basra circles away. Basra throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Basra catches Gold with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! A good leg kick by Basra. Basra dips down and scores with a jab to the body. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Basra listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Basra connects with a right hand. Gold shakes it off.
Gold is rocked! Basra drops Gold with a naaaaasty hook - Gold is in real trouble here! Basra dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ali Basra!
