Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johny Cage! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bubba Jay! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jay drops Cage with a nice combination! Jay dives into Cage's guard, looking to finish!
Cage is rocked!
It looks like Johny Cage has been cut. Cage looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Jay drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jay jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Oh Cage is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Jay would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Jay passes easily into side control. Nice work. Cage seems to have got his legs back now. Jay tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Cage is looking for a sweep. Jay scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Cage to see if he's OK. Jay landing strikes. Cage taking punishment in the form of punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jay decides to stand back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jay stuffs the takedown attempt from Cage. Cage gets slowly back to his feet. Cage walks forward, straight into a front kick from Jay. Cage looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Cage stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jay swivels though and keeps the full guard. Cage stopping the sweep attempt from Jay. Jay looking to control but Cage passes into half guard.
Cage is looking for a kimura here.
Cage seems to be working for a kimura but Jay defends the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jay wants to get back to full guard. Jay trying to control but Cage postures up.
Jay tries to kick Cage off but Cage keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Jay scores with a takedown into Cage's guard. Cage keeping moving, preventing Jay from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cage is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Jay throwing strikes but missing. Jay forces his way into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jay is trying to work for a kimura but Cage is defending well.
Cage is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jay's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jay's back! Cage is trying to stick to Jay's back but Jay is turning into Cage. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Cage's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Jay.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Jay is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Cage is working an open guard so Jay takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Jay has a takedown stuffed. Cage gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Jay counters with an outside leg kick.
Jay bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Jay stands up and we're back to a striking position. Jay misses with a takedown attempt - Cage sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Jay shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Jay wants to control from the top but Cage keeps moving. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cage looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jay is one step ahead there. Jay looking to sit in guard and control but Cage gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bubba Jay dominated that round. The cut man is working on Johny Cage's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Cage closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jay to the mat! Jay manages to get full guard. Jay has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Cage should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Jay has tightened it up now! Cage should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Bubba Jay!
