Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chris Weidman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karim Al Abib (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Weidman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Karim Al Abib!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weidman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Weidman wants it to stay on the feet.
Al Abib gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Weidman counters with a series of strikes. Al Abib will be more careful next time no doubt.

and Al Abib takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Chris Weidman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karim Al Abib.
Al Abib shoots in looking for a takedown but Weidman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Al Abib's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Al Abib escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Weidman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Weidman's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Weidman throws a series of punches but Al Abib avoids them all with ease.

Weidman has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Al Abib goes for a takedown attempt but Weidman pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Al Abib moves into range and clinches up with Weidman.

Weidman manages to break the clinch.

Al Abib takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Al Abib changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Weidman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Weidman is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Al Abib off and has taken his back!

I would not like to be Al Abib right now.
Weidman is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Al Abib. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Weidman has the hooks in. Al Abib is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Weidman is riding his opponent, not letting Al Abib buck him off.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

so Weidman counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Weidman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Al Abib shoots for a double leg takedown but Weidman sprawls well. He's pushed Al Abib's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

A jab from Weidman finds it's way through Al Abib's defenses.

Karim Al Abib seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Weidman has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Al Abib!

Chris Weidman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Weidman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Weidman feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Al Abibs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Weidman gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Weidman is pawing at Al Abib, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Al Abib's nose. Al Abib is badly hurt! Weidman pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Al Abib tries desperately to hold on but Weidman is relentless in his assault! As Al Abib receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Weidman away and this one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:16 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chris Weidman!
Chris Weidman spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
