Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Johnny Sanders! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, To Hak! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hak throws a head kick that misses. Hak stuffs the takedown. Hak throws a series of strikes that have Sanders backpedaling.
Nice takedown defense from Hak. No joy for Sanders on that attempt. Hak throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Sanders's head. Sanders tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hak swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Sanders. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hak throws a nice head kick!
A chopping leg kick lands by Hak. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Hak, right into the meat.
Johnny Sanders seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hak throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sanders closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hak circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hak throws a series of punches but Sanders moves out of range. Hak wants to clinch and Sanders counters with a shoot takedown. Hak fights it but they end up in guard. Sanders drops back looking for a leg! Hak is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hak manages to kick Sanders off! Sanders jumps back into Hak's guard. Sanders trying to control the position from guard on top but Hak is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sanders will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Sanders prevents Hak from getting back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanders trying to control but Hak is working from the bottom. Sanders lands a couple of decent looking shots. Hak really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sanders. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sanders is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Sanders postures up.
Sanders wants to pass the guard but Hak is keeping the position. Sanders scoring with punches to the head and body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hak has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Sanders has passed into side control.
Sanders moves into full mount! Sanders looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Sanders tries to control but Hak wriggling away. Sanders jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Hak is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Hak and Sanders has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sanders moves into full mount! Hak slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Sanders passes to side control. Sanders looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hak can do anything to dispel that myth. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hak is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Sanders has just dragged him back down to the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Johnny Sanders dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Sanders shoots in but Hak avoids the takedown attempt easily. Sanders takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Hak connects with a solid leg kick. Hak lands with a nice body punch. Sanders changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hak tries to avoid it but Sanders manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hak to the ground. Hak escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Sanders shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hak sprawls well. Hak wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sanders gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Sanders. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sanders tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hak swivels and escapes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hak scores with a kick to the body.
Horrible takedown by Sanders or perhaps it was just good defense by Hak which made him look bad. Sanders closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Hak prevents Sanders from improving position. Sanders tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Hak is trying to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hak prevents Sanders from moving into mount. Hak tries to get back to half guard but can't. Hak parries the strikes from Sanders easily there. Sanders is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Hak to escape.
Johnny Sanders overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Sanders in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Hak is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
