Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Stanley Hughes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, David Miller! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Dmitry Maklakov and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hughes misses with a straight right. The fight stays on the outside here - Hughes looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Miller's corner calls for a 1-2. Miller obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Miller scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Hughes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Miller's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Miller's back! Miller is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Hughes missing with strikes. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Miller finds himself mounted whilst avoiding strikes. Miller sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Miller is looking to control Hughes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Miller avoid being mounted? Miller gets back to full guard.
Hughes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Miller on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miller looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hughes is one step ahead there. Hughes being controlled here momentarily. Hughes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hughes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hughes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Hughes trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Miller manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Miller pushing down on Hughes's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Hughes tries to get to full guard but Miller has control of the leg. Miller throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Hughes to regain full guard. Hughes keeping moving, preventing Miller from controlling successfully. Miller might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hughes kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miller stands and throws Hughes's legs to the side, diving into side control. Hughes is trying to improve his position. Hughes prevents Miller from moving into mount. Miller trying to control the position but Hughes is working away. Miller moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Hughes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Miller wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Miller tries for a kimura but Hughes is defending well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hughes tries to get back to half guard but can't. Miller takes a little break here. Hughes wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Hughes is not content to let Miller control the position. Miller content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hughes is positioning himself to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
David Miller dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Miller works the jab nicely. Miller shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Miller showed some decent athleticism there. Miller is trying to control. Hughes wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Miller is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hughes doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Miller. David Miller has got the better of the ground game so far. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Miller looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's one minute gone in the round. Miller is taking a breather. Hughes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Miller is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Miller seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hughes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Miller missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Miller not landing any meaningful shots this time. Hughes wants to improve his position but Miller is controlling well.
Miller looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Miller in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Hughes tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Miller!
