PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Kinghorn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matt Kinghorn!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Micheangelo Fripello and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alvarez rushes Kinghorn and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Kinghorn drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Alvarez gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Alvarez wants the takedown. Kinghorn is fighting it off but Alvarez persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kinghorn's guard against the ropes.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Alvarez trying to control the position from guard on top but Kinghorn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kinghorn wants to sweep here but Alvarez controlling him for the moment.
Alvarez postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Kinghorn has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Alvarez drops back looking for a leg! Kinghorn is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kinghorn manages to kick Alvarez off! Alvarez jumps back into Kinghorn's guard.

Alvarez wants to take a breather but Kinghorn is having none of it.

Alvarez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kinghorn is refusing to be controlled, as Alvarez sits in half guard.

Alvarez is trying to work for a kimura but Kinghorn is defending well.
Alvarez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kinghorn's head.
Kinghorn is looking to improve his position.
Kinghorn has his hands clasped together around Alvarez's back. He's all about the action.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Alvarez is trying to work for a kimura but Kinghorn is defending well.

Alvarez passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Kinghorn!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Alvarez lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Alvarez has hold of Kinghorn's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kinghorn manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Kinghorn has left one of his arms exposed and Alvarez doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Kinghorn screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
