PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dexter Redshaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Redshaw might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to ACDC - Skies on Fire. Ryan has chosen Freestyler as his entrance music. Dexter Redshaw had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 3, fighting out of Sydney, Dexter Redshaw!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brad Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A cross from Ryan lands.
Ryan misses with a looping left.
Redshaw connects with a body shot that sends Ryan's belly button to the back.
Redshaw thows a body shot but no joy.
Redshaw shoots in looking for a takedown. Ryan tries to sprawl out of it but Redshaw keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ryan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ryan shoots in for a double leg but Redshaw sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ryan cracks Redshaw with a good jab.
Redshaw is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Redshaw throws a head kick that misses.
Ryan misses with the combination.
Redshaw misses with a body punch
and Ryan counters with a body kick that stops Redshaw in his tracks momentarily.
Ryan lands with an uppercut that bounces Redshaw off the cage and back into range.
Ryan is looking to clinch.
Ryan swats away the attempt to clinch by Redshaw.
Redshaw tries to close the distance and clinch but Ryan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Ryan counters with a nice double leg into guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Redshaw holds on and takes a little breather.

Ryan wants to control from the top but Redshaw keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Redshaw throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ryan circles away from the clinch attempt.

Ryan tries to sprawl but Redshaw drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Redshaw drops an elbow to the side of Ryan's head.

Redshaw missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Redshaw thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Redshaw throws a strike but Ryan avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Redshaw working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ryan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Redshaw won't allow Ryan to sweep him here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Redshaw advances to half guard.
Ryan is looking to improve his position.
Redshaw not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Redshaw seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Ryan trying to control but Redshaw postures up.
Redshaw has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Redshaw is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Redshaw trying to control the action but Ryan is working from the bottom.
Ryan misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Redshaw takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Redshaw working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Redshaw tries to pass to full mount but Ryan defends it.
Redshaw lands with a punch from half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Redshaw lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Redshaw slips a nice elbow through Ryan's hands, connecting with Ryan's forehead.

Redshaw is working for a kimura but Ryan is defending it quite comfortably.
Redshaw wants to control but Ryan is keeping him busy.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Ryan wants to control but Redshaw is keeping busy and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dexter Redshaw dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Redshaw wants to clinch up but Ryan keeps it at a distance.
No joy there for Ryan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Redshaw connects with a nice looking jab.
Redshaw is looking to slow Ryan down with leg kicks.
Ryan blocks a low kick nicely.
Redshaw scores with a jab to the body.
Dexter Redshaw seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ryan stuffs the takedown.

Ryan fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Redshaw to the ground. Ryan is now in Redshaw's guard.
Redshaw is pulling down on Ryan's head. It's preventing any offense from Ryan, at least for the moment.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Redshaw manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ryan is looking to improve his position but Redshaw isn't that keen on the idea.

During a confident post fight interview, Dexter Redshaw thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
