0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joao Vieira! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, John Mangel and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vieira throws a low kick but it's checked well by Matusow. The fight stays on the outside here - Vieira looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Vieira doesn't manage to clinch there - Matusow circles away.

Vieira fails with the takedown and Matusow counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Matusow thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Vieira is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Matusow performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Matusow's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Vieira has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matusow is working away from the top position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matusow throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Matusow seems to be working for a kimura but Vieira defends the submission attempt. Matusow trying to pass the guard but Vieira defending well. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Vieira wants to control but Matusow is keeping busy.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Vieira misses with a takedown and Matusow counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Matusow.

Matusow is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Matusow pushing down on Vieira's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Matusow controlling the action here. Matusow is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Vieira is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
