Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Erick Rootmans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doncarlo Giani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rootmans comes to the cage accompanied by Rage Against The Machine – The Ghost Of Tom Joad. The key to victory for Erick Rootmans has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Erick Rootmans! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Doncarlo Giani! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Giani misses with a takedown and Rootmans counters with a nice uppercut. Giani wants to clinch up but Rootmans keeps it at a distance. Giani doesn't succeed with the takedown and Rootmans counters with a two punch combo. Giani doesn't succeed with the takedown enabling Rootmans to counter with a crisp jab. Erick Rootmans has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doncarlo Giani. Giani shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rootmans looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Giani wants to pass to mount but Rootmans is defending the position. Giani wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rootmans keeps working. Giani not landing any meaningful shots this time. Giani thows a huge punch but Rootmans dodges it nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Giani is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Rootmans is defending against the submission attempts here by Giani.
Giani is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Giani missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Rootmans wants to get back to his feet.
Giani is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rootmans has managed to free his arm - good work. Giani is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rootmans is just riding it out for now. Giani eventually gives up the hold.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rootmans wants to get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Doncarlo Giani will probably get the nod. That's time! Rootmans's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Giani darts in trying to clinch and Rootmans counters with a flying knee that drops Giani!
Giani is rocked! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Giani looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Rootmans has picked Giani up and slammed him! Giani can't keep hold of the triangle and Rootmans manages to pass to side control! Rootmans tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Giani trying to control but Rootmans flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back! Rootmans controlling well, preventing Giani from escaping the position.
Giani is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Rootmans.
You can see the frustration on Giani's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rootmans just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Rootmans is trying to stick to Giani's back but Giani is turning into Rootmans. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Rootmans's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Giani. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Giani looking to sit in guard and control but Rootmans gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Giani wants to sweep but no luck. Rootmans wants to get up but he can't break Giani's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Rootmans knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Giani on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rootmans is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Giani has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Rootmans is looking to defend but Giani has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Rootmans! Giani pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Rootmans taps out and this one is all over!
