Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between John Newton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trevor Sloan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sloan is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: What you know about that. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Newton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Trevor Sloan!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Damien Edna and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newton dives in and grabs Sloan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sloan pushes down on Newton's head and hops out.
Sloan looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Newton clinches with his opponent.
Sloan fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Sloan pulls guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Newton trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Newton throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sloan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sloan preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Newton's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Newton tries to stand but Sloan is controlling from the bottom.

Newton stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Sloan wants to slow Newton down by chopping away at his legs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sloan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Newton shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Newton content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Newton is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Newton looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Newton connects with a nice short shot to Sloan's temple.
Sloan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Newton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sloan wants to sweep but Newton has passed to side control!
Newton wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sloan keeps working.
Newton is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Sloan's shoulder. That is not cool.
Newton is chipping away with strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Newton has hold of Sloan's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Sloan tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Newton cranks the arm and Sloan screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Sloan, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). John Newton!
