Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Godbolt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rakhmetov Chernyshevsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matthew Godbolt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rakhmetov Chernyshevsky! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Godbolt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Godbolt loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Godbolt lands a couple of decent looking shots. Godbolt is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Chernyshevsky is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Chernyshevsky has escaped and now he's on top! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chernyshevsky passes into half guard. Chernyshevsky wants to stand up but Godbolt has a hold of him and won't allow it. Godbolt trying to get back to full guard but Chernyshevsky takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Godbolt can't escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chernyshevsky blocks Godbolt's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Godbolt working to try and regain half guard.
Godbolt is working hard here to advance position. Godbolt tries to hold on but Chernyshevsky postures up. Godbolt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Godbolt is just holding on here. Chernyshevsky manages to take his back.
You can see the frustration on Godbolt's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Godbolt trying to control the hands but Chernyshevsky won't let him. Chernyshevsky controlling well, preventing Godbolt from escaping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Godbolt turns into Chernyshevsky and is now in his guard.
Godbolt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Godbolt looking to sit in guard and control but Chernyshevsky gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Godbolt tries to land a sweep but no joy. Chernyshevsky must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Chernyshevsky trying to stand up but can't free himself from Godbolt's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Godbolt escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chernyshevsky gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Chernyshevsky is stalling in the full guard. Godbolt throws his legs up looking for a submission but Chernyshevsky uses it to pass to side control.
Godbolt wants to control but Chernyshevsky postures up. Godbolt is looking for a sweep. Chernyshevsky has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Rakhmetov Chernyshevsky is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Chernyshevsky takes a swing at Godbolt's ribcage but misses. Chernyshevsky misses with a body shot.
Chernyshevsky keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Chernyshevsky connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Godbolt's hands. Godbolt fails with a takedown attempt. Rakhmetov Chernyshevsky seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A big left from Godbolt misses. Chernyshevsky misses with a hook. Godbolt looks for a takedown but Chernyshevsky sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matthew Godbolt. That's going to take a lot out of him. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Godbolt looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Chernyshevsky cracks Godbolt with a right hand to the side of the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Matthew Godbolt will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Nice uppercut there from Chernyshevsky. Godbolt shoots in for a takedown but Chernyshevsky shows good takedown defense. Chernyshevsky catches Godbolt with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Chernyshevsky cracks a nice hook into Godbolt's ribs. Chernyshevsky slips a jab from Godbolt. Godbolt throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chernyshevsky's waist but Chernyshevsky gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Godbolt off to one side. Chernyshevsky tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Godbolt was well out of range. Poor timing from Chernyshevsky. Godbolt shoots in looking for a takedown. Chernyshevsky tries to sprawl out of it but Godbolt keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chernyshevsky manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matthew Godbolt. That's going to take a lot out of him. Chernyshevsky throws an overhand right that lands on Godbolt's shoulder, as Godbolt tries to avoid the shot. Godbolt shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Godbolt showed some decent athleticism there. Chernyshevsky trying to hold on to Godbolt's head to control him but Godbolt postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Godbolt thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Chernyshevsky's head. Chernyshevsky blocking the ground and pound attempt from Godbolt. Godbolt is trying to control the action in half guard but Chernyshevsky is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Godbolt is working for a kimura but Chernyshevsky is defending it quite comfortably.

Chernyshevsky is controlling Godbolt's trapped leg to prevent Godbolt from advancing to side control. Godbolt throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Chernyshevsky to regain full guard. Chernyshevsky really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Godbolt. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Chernyshevsky controlling the position. Godbolt connects with a couple of short punches. Godbolt missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Godbolt trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Matthew Godbolt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Godbolt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Godbolt throws an elbow that misses. Chernyshevsky uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Godbolt's guard. Nice move by Chernyshevsky! Godbolt is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Godbolt is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Chernyshevsky rolls with it to try and escape but Godbolt cranks on the arm and Chernyshevsky is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
