PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mark Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jrock Mandela (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jrock Mandela!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lewis waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Mandela.
Mandela shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lewis pinned against the cage. Lewis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lewis throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Mandela is looking to clinch.
Lewis slips a jab and a cross from Mandela.

Lewis tries to keep at a distance but Mandela has taken the fight into the clinch.

Lewis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lewis lands a nice looking body shot.
Mandela takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like Jrock Mandela has been cut.
Lewis cracks Mandela with an uppercut from hell and Mandela crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Lewis's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!


Mandela is rocked!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lewis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Mandela is still in real trouble! Can Lewis finish him?
Lewis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mandela swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lewis passes Mandela's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Lewis is looking for a kimura but Mandela is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lewis to get the leverage.
Mandela seems to have recovered his senses.

Lewis decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Mark Lewis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lewis throws a right and a left that Mandela avoids nicely.

Lewis clinches with his opponent.

Mandela throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lewis's waist but Lewis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mandela off to one side.
Lewis scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Lewis throws a shot from downtown. Mandela moves away and avoids it.
Lewis smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

and Mandela counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mandela.
Lewis is breathing heavily.
Mandela tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Lewis has had enough of the clinch but Mandela keeps him there for the moment.

Mandela jumps into guard, dragging Lewis to the mat.
Lewis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mandela not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Lewis is looking to break free of the clinch but Mandela has double underhooks.

Lewis is pushing down on Mandela's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mandela is fighting to maintain full guard but Lewis has managed to sneak the leg through.

Lewis is working for a kimura but Mandela is defending it quite comfortably.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Lewis is looking for a kimura here.
Mandela moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Mandela tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Lewis works over Mandela with some ground and pound from guard.
Mandela is trying to keep Lewis in close.

Lewis wants to control from the top but Mandela keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Lewis uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Mandela has time to react.
Nice combo by Lewis! Oh, that's hurt him - Mandela falls to the canvas and Lewis follows him into side control.

Lewis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mandela, who protects the arm well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lewis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mandela knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Lewis goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Mandela turns into him and now he's in Lewis's guard.

Lewis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mandela doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mandela manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Lewis has hold of Mandela's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Mandela manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Mandela fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lewis, pushing him back against the cage.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mandela tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lewis smiles and moves away.
Lewis is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Mark Lewis is winning the standup battle so far.
Lewis throws a hook to the side of Mandela's head but Mandela sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Lewis is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Lewis drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mandela gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Mandela throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Lewis throws a good cross that connects.
Mandela cracks Lewis with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Mandela walks into a stiff left hand from Lewis.
Mandela shoots in but Lewis avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mandela staying out of range there.
Lewis fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mandela manages to avoid it.
Lewis scores with a jab to the body.
Mandela takes one on the chin but seems OK.
A clash of legs there as Lewis blocks the low kick.
Lewis will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Lewis throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Lewis throws a series of punches but Mandela avoids them all with ease.
Mandela looks for a takedown but Lewis sprawls well.
Mark Lewis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jrock Mandela.

Mandela is the more experienced fighter here and he's going to need to draw on some of that experience if he's going to pull this one out the bag.
Mandela takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Lewis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jrock Mandela has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mandela is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lewis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
