Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, The Valera!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valera blocks a head kick by Shepel.
Shepel lands with a nice body kick.
Valera shoots in but Shepel avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Shepel tries a head kick but it misses.
Valera blocks a head kick by Shepel.
Shepel throws a head kick that misses.
Shepel throws a head kick but Valera moves out of range.
Valera shoots for a takedown but Shepel saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Shepel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Shepel leaves Valera with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Alexei Shepel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of The Valera.
Shepel tries a head kick but it misses.
Shepel misses with a body kick.
Shepel throws a head kick but Valera moves out of range.
Shepel throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Valera.

Alexei Shepel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Valera shoots in looking for a takedown but Shepel manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Valera's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Valera shoots in and gets a takedown into Shepel's guard.

Valera won't allow Shepel to get back to his feet.
Valera throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shepel works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Valera drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Valera jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Valera is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Shepel is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Shepel has escaped and now he's on top!
Valera working for a triangle but Shepel defends it easily.

Shepel is posturing up here but Valera has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Shepel tries to roll out but it's too tight and Shepel has to tap! Slick submission there by Valera!
