PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stevie Gonzales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Evander Tripp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tripp has chosen Bad Company - The Nine as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Stevie Gonzales!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Evander Tripp!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzales connects with a nice looking jab.
Gonzales cracks Tripp with a right hand to the side of the head.
Gonzales moves out of range as Tripp strikes.
Gonzales on the wrong end of a nice jab.


It looks like Stevie Gonzales has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gonzales throws the kick towards the body but Tripp avoids it.
Tripp tries to clinch up.

Tripp shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gonzales manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Tripp is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
It looks like Tripp might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Gonzales is looking to sweep but instead, Tripp has passed into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tripp thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Tripp lands a nice short elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gonzales moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Gonzales trying to keep a closed guard but Tripp is proving a slippery customer.
Tripp throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Gonzales working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Tripp.
Tripp throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gonzales works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tripp slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Gonzales knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tripp on the ground.

Tripp postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Gonzales is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Tripp, into his guard.
Tripp wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Evander Tripp.
Gonzales lands a lovely overhand right.
Gonzales lands with an overhand left.
Tripp tries to clinch up but Gonzales circles away and keeps his distance.
Horrible takedown by Tripp or perhaps it was just good defense by Gonzales which made him look bad.
Gonzales scores with a hook.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nice defenses there by Gonzales.
Tripp looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Gonzales stuffs the takedown.
Stevie Gonzales has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Evander Tripp.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A big left from Tripp misses.
Gonzales defending well as Tripp loads up on a big left hand.
Gonzales uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Tripp.
Gonzales throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Gonzales defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Tripp.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tripp.
Gonzales fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tripp manages to avoid it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Tripp on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Gonzales misses with a body shot.
Gonzales staying out of range there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Stevie Gonzales will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Stevie Gonzales's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Gonzales.
Tripp just misses with a punch to the body.
Gonzales scores with a push kick.
Gonzales slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.


It looks like Evander Tripp has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gonzales jabs at Tripp's body.
Gonzales ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Gonzales lands a big right hand that sends Tripp crashing to the mat! Gonzales stays standing though and waves Tripp back to his feet!


Tripp is rocked!
Gonzales lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Tripp at a distance.
Gonzales circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Tripp to the canvas! Tripp doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Gonzales keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stevie Gonzales!
Stevie Gonzales tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
