Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lee Morimoto! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Johnny Michael! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Michael lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Morimoto walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Michael checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Morimoto takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Morimoto misses with a takedown attempt and Michael counters with a single leg into guard. Morimoto didn't expect that. Morimoto might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Morimoto is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Morimoto keeping moving, preventing Michael from controlling successfully. Morimoto is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Morimoto is working an open guard so Michael takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Morimoto throws a half hearted mid kick. Michael tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Morimoto was well out of range. Poor timing from Michael. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Morimoto shoots in for a takedown but Michael shows good takedown defense.
That's one minute gone in the round. Michael shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Michael works his way into full mount! Michael can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Morimoto is looking to escape. Michael tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Michael trying to control but he's not successful this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Morimoto is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Michael locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Morimoto is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Johnny Michael! Our winner, Johnny Michael, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
