PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Scott Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Killian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Killian has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Scott Rush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Killian!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rush is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Killian shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rush as he avoids it easily.
Danga de danga de dang - Rush scores with a four punch combination!
Rush tries to close the distance and clinch but Killian swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Scott Rush seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rush tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Rush gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Killian looks winded!
Killian trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Killian stops Rush from standing up.
Rush trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rush fails in his attempt to clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rush tries to clinch up but Killian circles away and keeps his distance.
Rush scores with a sloppy right hand. Killian should have avoided that one.
Rush lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Rush goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Rush rushes Killian and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Rush drags the fight down to the ground.
Killian wants to pass the guard but Rush is keeping the position.

Killian drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rush manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Killian has Rush in his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rush trying to control but Killian is working from the bottom.

Killian has his foot on Rush's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rush works his way back into a safe position though.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rush trying to control the position from guard on top but Killian is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Killian is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rush defends well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rush is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Killian keeping full guard, as Rush tries to pass.

Rush advances to half guard.
Rush wants to stand but Killian has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Rush not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Killian is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rush pulls his head out easily.
Rush is trying to control. Killian wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Killian looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Rush seems to be looking for submissions.

Rush is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Killian looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rush is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Killian has managed to free his arm - good work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rush seems to be working for a kimura but Killian defends the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Rush dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Rush tries to clinch but Killian is having none of it.
Rush lands with a nice combination. Killian backs away looking to recover.

Rush closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Killian to the mat! Killian manages to get full guard.
Rush knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Killian on the ground.

Killian looking for a guillotine here but Rush defends easily.
Rush has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Rush postures up and lands a big shot to Killian's brow.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rush pushes down on Killian's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rush wants to work for an arm triangle but Killian is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Killian is refusing to be controlled, as Rush sits in half guard.

Rush is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Killian defends it well.

Rush seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Killian does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Rush is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Killian defends it well.
Rush wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Killian uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

Rush avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Rush wants to control from the top but Killian keeps moving.

Rush throws a big elbow that misses.
Rush keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Killian's head.

Killian has momentary wrist control but Rush slips an elbow through the middle.

Killian is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rush is aware though and is defending well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rush trying to control the position from guard on top but Killian is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rush thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Rush dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Rush tries to clinch up

and Killian counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Rush!
Killian wants to get back to his feet but Rush is holding on tight.
Scott Rush overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rush is desperately trying to improve his position but Killian has a good base and remains in mount.

Killian looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rush tries to reverse the position but Killian maintains control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rush tries to hold on but Killian postures up.
Rush working to try and regain half guard.
Killian is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rush regains half guard.
Killian is looking to advance position but Rush won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Scott Rush.
Killian takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Rush moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Killian circles away from the clinch attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rush connects with a good right hand that stumbles Killian. Killian circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Rush feints a jab promting Killian to slip. Rush then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Killian slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Killian misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
No luck for Killian with that takedown attempt.

Rush closes the distance and clinches.

Rush works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Rush is sitting in close to Killian's body. Killian has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Rush is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Rush is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Killian.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Matt Killian!
