Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikko Hovimaki! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, JP Takedown! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Nard Betker and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Takedown misses with a head kick.
Takedown looks for a takedown but Hovimaki sprawls well. Takedown throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Hovimaki's head. Hovimaki displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Takedown. Takedown is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Takedown shoots and misses and Hovimaki counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
It looks like JP Takedown has been cut. Mikko Hovimaki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of JP Takedown. Hovimaki looks to land a combination but Takedown avoids it well. Hovimaki throws a hook to the side of Takedown's head but Takedown sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Hovimaki keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Hovimaki gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Takedown to score an easy takedown into full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hovimaki being controlled here, momentarily. Takedown wants to control from the top but Hovimaki keeps moving.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. JP Takedown wasn't active enough on the ground. Hovimaki lands with a right hand. Mikko Hovimaki is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Hovimaki moves out of range as Takedown strikes. Takedown misses with a body shot.
Hovimaki avoids the body shot from Takedown.
Hovimaki scores with a hook to the body. Takedown takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Hovimaki misses with a jab, cross combination.
Takedown tries to work over Hovimaki's front leg with a kick but Hovimaki checks it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hovimaki misses with a left hand and Takedown counters with a takedown into side control. Takedown is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hovimaki has escaped the position, nice work there. Takedown tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Takedown has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Takedown tries to stand but Hovimaki is controlling his head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Takedown swings around for an armbar but Hovimaki sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Takedown's guard. Takedown controls Hovimaki momentarily but Hovimaki frees himself. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Takedown looking for a sweep. Not yet Takedown, not yet. Takedown controls Hovimaki momentarily but Hovimaki frees himself.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. JP Takedown wasn't active enough on the ground. Takedown takes one on the button. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
JP Takedown dominated that round. The cut man is working on JP Takedown's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Hovimaki looks to throw the jab but Takedown is out of range. Hovimaki checks a low kick from Takedown. Takedown looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Takedown passes into half guard. Takedown is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hovimaki is just riding it out for now. Takedown eventually gives up the hold. Takedown looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Hovimaki on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hovimaki tries to get out of the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Takedown passes to side control. Hovimaki tries to escape but Takedown is in control. Hovimaki is being controlled here. Takedown trying to control the action but Hovimaki is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. JP Takedown has got the better of the ground game so far. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Hovimaki knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Takedown on the ground. Takedown tries for a kimura but Hovimaki is defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hovimaki tries to escape but Takedown is in control. Takedown tries to advance to mount but can't. Takedown trying to control the action but Hovimaki is working from the bottom. Hovimaki stops Takedown from passing to mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Takedown is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hovimaki knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Takedown trying to control the position but Hovimaki is working away. Hovimaki prevents Takedown from moving into mount. Takedown wants to stand but Hovimaki has his arm trapped. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
JP Takedown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on JP Takedown's cut. That's time! Hovimaki's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!
Hovimaki throws a shot from downtown. Takedown moves away and avoids it. Takedown uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hovimaki. Takedown fails with a takedown attempt. Takedown ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hovimaki listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Takedown throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hovimaki was covering up waiting for the punch and Takedown finishes the takedown easily into guard. Takedown stands and throws Hovimaki's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Takedown is trying to get an arm triangle but Hovimaki is defending well. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Hovimaki trying to remain calm as Takedown controls from the top position. Let's hope that Takedown has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Takedown has hold of Hovimaki's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Hovimaki tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Takedown cranks the arm and Hovimaki screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Hovimaki, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
