Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Clyde Gerke! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Alfredsson! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gerke tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Alfredsson lands a nice looking body shot.
Gerke looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Gerke is looking to clinch. Gerke tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Alfredsson paws at him with a jab and circles away. Gerke throws a big shot that misses. Gerke moves in looking to clinch but Alfredsson pushes him off. Alfredsson thows a left - swing and a miss! Alfredsson misses with a looping left. Alfredsson stuffs the takedown attempt from Gerke. Gerke gets slowly back to his feet. Alfredsson misses with a left hand and Gerke counters by clinching up. Alfredsson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Gerke tries to clinch up but Alfredsson circles away and keeps his distance. Decent striking displayed by Alfredsson there. Gerke is looking to take this fight into the clinch. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Alfredsson closes the distance and lands a one-two.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gerke looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Gerke tries to clinch but fails miserably and Alfredsson counters with a stiff right hand. Clyde Gerke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gerke blocks a jab. Some bone on bone action there as Gerke checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Alfredsson looks to land a right hand but Gerke moved out of range. Gerke tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Alfredsson counters with a right hand to the body. Gerke is breathing heavily. Alfredsson listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Alfredsson digs a good hook to Gerke's body.
Alfredsson looks to land a left hand but Gerke moved out of range nicely. Gerke pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Gerke shoots and misses and Alfredsson counters with a nice uppercut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A shot to the liver by Alfredsson. Beautiful body shot. Alfredsson looks to land a left hand but Gerke moved out of range nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alfredsson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gerke's hands.
Gerke is rocked! Alfredsson stuns Gerke with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Oh Gerke is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Alfredsson digs a good body shot into Gerke's ribs. Gerke seems to have got his legs back now. Alfredsson scores with a shot to the body.
A jab-cross combination lands for Alfredsson and sends Gerke crashing to the mat! Alfredsson follows him down to the mat - Gerke regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet! Alfredsson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Alfredsson is trying for a kimura here. Gerke looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Alfredsson wins by kimura!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Daniel Alfredsson! Daniel Alfredsson decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
