Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Laid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carl Rickson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carl Rickson struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 266.4lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Laid! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carl Rickson! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rickson turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Laid chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Rickson can pounce on him.
Laid takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Rickson fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. A nice inside leg kick there by Rickson. That's going to slow Laid down. Laid misses with a takedown attempt and Rickson counters with a slapping leg kick. Laid shoots in looking for a takedown but Rickson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Laid's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Laid gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Rickson counters with a low kick, right behind Laid 's knee. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Laid. That's going to take a lot out of him. Laid is breathing heavily. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Laid on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Rickson connects with a right hand. Laid shakes it off. Laid shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rickson is trying to defend but Laid finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Rickson looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Laid prevents Rickson from improving his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rickson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Laid's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Laid's back! Rickson working for a choke but Laid is defending well. Rickson looking for the RNC. Laid manages to reverse the position and now he's in Rickson's guard. Nice work there by Laid.
Laid postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Rickson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Laid defends well. Laid drops back looking for a leg! Rickson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rickson manages to kick Laid off! Laid jumps back into Rickson's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Laid lands a couple of digs. Laid with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rickson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Laid is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Rickson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Laid. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Laid throwing strikes but missing. Laid preventing the sweep. Laid content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Rickson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rickson fails to take his opponent's back. Rickson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Laid is trying to escape the mount.
Rickson looking to ground and pound but Laid is blocking nicely. Laid slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Laid is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rickson pulls his head out easily. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Rickson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Laid is looking for a sweep. Rickson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rickson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Rickson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Laid's head. Laid regains full guard. Nicely done. Rickson passes Laid's left leg - he's now in half guard. Laid actively working from the bottom here. Rickson seems to be working for a kimura but Laid defends the submission attempt. Laid gets full guard.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Rickson forces his way into half guard. Laid is looking to improve his position.
Rickson tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Laid. Laid gets full guard. Rickson wants to control from the top but Laid keeps moving. Laid looking for a guillotine here but Rickson defends easily.
Laid is looking for a triangle but Rickson pushes his legs off easily.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Laid is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rickson defends well. Laid has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rickson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Rickson tries to free his leg and advance position but Laid is retaining full guard. Rickson throws a big right hand that misses. Rickson throws a big elbow that misses. Laid keeping moving, preventing Rickson from controlling successfully. Laid is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rickson is aware though and is defending well. Laid is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Rickson has his hands clasped together but Laid extends an breaks Rickson's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Laid.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mike Laid! Mike Laid tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
