Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Buys! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thurgood Jenkins! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Steve Montenegro and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Buys uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jenkins.
Buys lands a nice looking body kick. Buys shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Jenkins is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Ground and pound from Buys. Jenkins is looking for a sweep. Buys is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Buys keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Buys is keen to just control but Jenkins is a slippery customer. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Buys is thwarting Jenkins's attempts to control the position. Buys stands up out of the half guard. Jenkins swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jenkins looks gassed! Buys dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Jenkins. That did some damage! Buys swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fight stays on the outside here - Buys looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Buys throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Buys lands with a straight right. Jenkins didn't see that one coming. Jenkins tries to clinch but fails miserably and Buys counters with a lovely shot to the body. Buys scores a takedown into full mount! Buys controlling the position easily from mount. Jenkins tries to hold on but Buys pushes him away. Buys is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet! Buys takes one to the side of the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Buys clinches. Jenkins trying to stall but Buys improves his position.
Jenkins has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Buys uses from the top position. Jenkins trying to control the position.
Buys loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Buys trying to control the position from guard on top but Jenkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jenkins looking to control.
Jenkins looking to hit a scissor sweep but Buys is one step ahead there.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Buys gets in close and instigates a clinch. Buys breaks the clinch.
Jenkins feints and as Buys raises his hands in defense, Jenkins changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Jenkins throws and elbow that misses. Buys uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jenkins's guard. Nice move by Buys! The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Buys passes into half guard. Jenkins trying to control here.
Buys is trying to control the action in half guard but Jenkins is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Buys looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Buys is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Buys tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Buys lands a big elbow. Buys controlling the pace for now. Buys tries to control but Jenkins wriggling away. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Buys takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chris Buys dominated that round. The cut man is working on Thurgood Jenkins's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Buys drives through with a takedown into guard. Buys not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Buys trying to control the position from guard on top but Jenkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Chris Buys just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Jenkins tries to bum rush Buys with a series of wild strikes but Buys uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Thurgood Jenkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jenkins fails with the takedown and Buys counters by clinching up. Buys pulls guard. Buys looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Jenkins puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Jenkins working over Buys with some ground and pound. Buys looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Buys tries to get to full guard but Jenkins has control of the leg. Jenkins seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Buys does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jenkins seems to be looking for submissions.
Jenkins is breathing heavily. Buys blocking the ground and pound attempt from Jenkins. Jenkins tries to pass the half guard into mount. Buys knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Jenkins passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Buys! Jenkins prevents Buys from getting the reversal.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Buys is working hard here to advance position. Jenkins lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Jenkins looking for a guillotine from mount but Buys is having none of it. Jenkins trying to control but he's not successful this time. Jenkins content just to control the position here. Buys is trying to escape the mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jenkins tries to control but Buys wriggling away. Jenkins might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Buys kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Jenkins is landing with some decent strikes but Buys is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Buys takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Buys suckers Jenkins into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Buys is now in Jenkins's guard!
Buys with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Buys is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Buys forces his way into half guard. Buys sitting and controlling from the half guard. Buys is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Buys landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Chris Buys overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Buys is controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Buys wants to pass the guard but Jenkins is defending well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chris Buys dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Thurgood Jenkins's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Buys tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Jenkins counters by moving into the clinch. Jenkins stops a takedown attempt from Buys.
Buys wants a takedown but no success here.
Buys tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jenkins just stands there and leans against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Buys. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jenkins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jenkins thows a body shot but no joy. Jenkins doesn't succeed with the takedown so Buys counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Buys trying to control the position from guard on top but Jenkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Buys sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jenkins's guard. Buys is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jenkins is just riding it out for now. Buys eventually gives up the hold. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Jenkins gets back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jenkins manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Buys manages to get himself to full guard.
Buys keeping moving, preventing Jenkins from controlling successfully. Buys working a defensive guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Jenkins with a nice head shot there. Jenkins stopping the sweep attempt from Buys. Buys working for a triangle but Jenkins defends it easily.
Buys looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Buys holds on and takes a little breather. Jenkins postures up in Buys's guard and throws a big left but Buys blocks it. Buys wants to stand and escape but Jenkins is having none of it. Jenkins trying to stand up but can't free himself from Buys's guard. Buys wants to get back to his feet but Jenkins is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Buys trying to keep a closed guard but Jenkins is proving a slippery customer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Jenkins drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Buys manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jenkins has Buys in his guard. Buys landing some decent shots from guard. Jenkins is trying to control the position but Buys postures up. Thurgood Jenkins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Buys trying to control the position from guard on top but Jenkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that's the end of the fight! Chris Buys showed his dominance in that final round. Well Buys has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
