PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fidel Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cross comes to the cage accompanied by The American Dream Song. Castro comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Carlos Puebla - Y En Eso Llego Fidel kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Fidel Castro struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.8lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. David Cross had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Cross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fidel Castro!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Castro throws a jab but it's blocked by Cross.
Good work by Castro as he checks the leg kick.

Castro rushes Cross and presses him up against the cage.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Cross.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Cross.
Castro is trying to drag Cross to the mat but Cross just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
A short uppercut from Cross.
Castro gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cross.

Cross escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The fighters circling - Cross throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Cross misses with a double jab.
A jab from Cross does it's job there.
Castro stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Castro wants it to stay on the feet.
Castro throws a right hand that misses

and Cross counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Castro is controlling Cross's posture.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cross trying to control the position from guard on top but Castro is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cross preventing the sweep.
Cross slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Cross looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Castro is avoiding damage well.

Cross tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Castro is trying to control Cross's posture but Cross avoids it.
Cross working the ground and pound from side control.
Cross has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cross misses with the ground and pound.
Castro wants to control but Cross postures up.
Castro is looking to regain half guard here but Cross keeps moving and retains side control.

Cross has an Americana. Castro didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Cross is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Cross hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). David Cross!
